Metro Policing

We will work with our law enforcement partners, and our deputies will continue to provide top quality policing that is second to none. First and foremost, the safety of our public and my deputies is my top priority. We fought long and hard for a contract that would do both and provide the appropriate amount of resources needed to get the job done right.

When it became crystal clear last December that Metro’s Board of Directors was fully intent on going to a multi-agency policing model, we started working with the LAPD and Long Beach Police on a safety plan designed by law enforcement. I continue to maintain that the LASD did, and will continue to do, an outstanding job policing Metro.

While crime is up across the nation, overall crime is down 9.8 percent along Metro’s rail and bus lines and down more than 54 percent at Union Station. That is a tribute to the men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
