So, am I to believe what 3rd District Councilwoman Kristina Duggan said at the June 4 council meeting concerning how to deal with rising crime rates in Long Beach? She said that a solution to the problem would be – drum roll please – “more affordable housing.”
I’m surprised that the [Feb. 23] article didn’t raise any eyebrows about why the city is spending $4.1 million to provide 12 beds, in a barracks “sleeping pod” concept, at a cost of $341,667 per bed.
After driving through neighboring cities (Cypress, Lakewood, Los Alamitos and Westminster I crossed the border into Pot Hole City, AKA Long Beach Calif.
And the beat goes on… I am furious, but not surprised, to learn that our beloved Community Hospital is basically being turned into an all-purpose misery-for-profit center.
I am questioning the council office budget numbers that appeared in Jay Beeler’s Beachcombing article on Nov. 3. The quote read, “… our city councilmembers have had their budgets doubled from $290,000 to $588,000.”
