Long Beach Community Theater (LBCT) rings in 2017 with “The Best of the Best of Long Beach Community Theater,” a sampler of every production created by LBCT in their first three seasons. It is directed by Ann Wellman and presented at the Long Beach Playhouse as part of the Studio Collaborative Season. Feb. 10 & 11. Tickets are on sale now. The Long Beach Museum of Art announces the 2017 Middle School Exhibition My City, My River. LBUSD middle school art and science students were invited to submit works of art focusing on the renovation of the Los Angeles River. This exhibition is inspired by the current LA River restoration led by world renowned architect, Frank Gehry. Students were asked to connect the revitalization of the L.A. River to the broader theme of community green space. The Long Beach Museum of Art juried the submitted works of art, and 55 were selected to be shown in the exhibition, which runs through March 12.

In My Life - A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles is the musical retelling of the Beatles story through the eyes of manager Brian Epstein. The multi-media production features the live music of renowned tribute band, Abbey Road and is considered by industry insiders to be the most unique show about the Beatles in decades. “In My Life” performs at the Downey Theatre on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $36 - $57 and may be purchased online at www.downeytheatre.com, by phone to (562) 861-8211 or at the Theatre Box Office, Tuesday - Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour before performances. The Downey Theatre is located at 8435 Firestone Blvd. “In My Life” played to a sold out audience at Downey Theatre in 2014 and Abbey Road’s “Beatles vs. Stones” show performed to a sold out audience at the venue last year. The show is appropriate for all ages.

What better way to start the new year than with a goofy, charming musical escape? Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross, one of the most popular and successful off-Broadway musicals in history, opens Feb. 17 at International City Theatre. Two low-priced previews take place on Feb. 15 and 16. In Forever Plaid, four young singers killed in a car crash find themselves miraculously revived from the dead. Since the accident happened while on the way to their first-ever big concert, they’re thrilled that they get to fulfill their dream and perform the show after all — even though now it’s more than 50 years later and they’re at International City Theatre. Long Beach’s iconic Queen Mary unveils Local Band Hangout, the hottest new spot to spend Thursday nights. Listen to top local artists and up-and-coming bands while experiencing the wonders of the majestic ship every third Thursday of each month. The Queen Mary’s 1936 Art Deco Observation Bar offers an intimate venue for music-lovers, entertainment-seekers and history buffs alike to enjoy some of SoCal’s top artists. “Using such a unique space as the Queen Mary for local musicians to attract new fans is really quite exciting. We can’t wait to connect these talented new artists with passionate music fans in a venue that has hosted so many celebrated performers,” said Steve Sheldon, Director of Events and Entertainment at The Queen Mary.
