Analyzing 2025 LB Homicides

Based on current information of the 31 murders committed in Long Beach in 2025, 20, or 64.5 percent resulted in arrests of suspects, whose guilt has yet to be proven in court. Eight cases showed no arrests, one by suicide of the suspect. There were 38 murders in 2024 and 26 in 2023, a 2024 to 2025 decrease of 18.4 percent.

Methods

21 murders by gunshot, two murders by stabbing, seven by other or unknown methods.

Identity

Twenty-nine of the victims were male; two were female. Of the suspects, 23 were male, two were female.

Five male murder victims were unidentified at the time. Two of the victims or suspects have yet to be identified because of their youth, one because of a suicide.

Age of victims ranged from infancy to 78. Three of the victims were in their teens or younger, ten their 20s or 30s, nine in their 40s or 50s. Most arrestees were in their teens or 20s; with a total age range from 15 to 56.

Circumstances

Five murders were the result of potential domestic violence, two by a relative, one was a murder-suicide.

Locations

Thirteen deaths were in north Long Beach, five in west Long Beach, six in central Long Beach, four in downtown, two in Belmont Shore or east Long Beach, one in an unknown area. Four murders were in a homeless encampment in a creek, riverbed or right-of-way. Three of the murders occurred on Long Beach Boulevard, two on Pacific Coast Highway.

Four of the victims were from out-of-town, 14 from Long Beach, the remainder, town unknown or undisclosed.

Seven arrestees were from out-of-town; 10 from Long Beach.

Murdered by Shooting

January 14 – Tyrone Crawford, 64, at 3000 block of Gold Star Drive. Trayen Gaston, 30, of Long Beach arrested.

January 18 – Tyrant Otee Walker, 55, of Compton at 6800 block of Coachella Avenue. No arrests noted.

February 9 – Dante Williams, 19, of Long Beach at 6200 block of Long Beach Boulevard. No arrests noted.

February 16 – Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla, 32, of Long Beach at 1700 block of Long Beach Boulevard. John Paul Mcintyre III, 18, of Long Beach was arrested.

February 18 – Durell Shell, 38, of Long Beach at 1400 block of Locust Avenue. Edgar Melgar Salazar, 28, of Long Beach was arrested.

March 17 – Alejandro Calderon, 52, of Hawthorne at 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue. Malik Cooper, a 24-year-old resident of Compton was arrested.

April 12 – Travis Lee Robinson Sr., 56 of Long Beach at 1900 block of 45th Street. No arrests noted.

April 12 – Brandon Villarreal, 21, of Long Beach at Cedar Walk at Ocean Blvd. A 15-year-old resident of Long Beach arrested in Barstow.

May 27 – Jordan Mosby, 19, of Atwater at 200 block of East Pacific Coast Highway. Deriana Cole a 19 of Compton arrested.

May 29 – An unidentified man at 2000 block of East Harding Street. Garrett Remillard, 24, of Long Beach, who made statements connecting himself to the homicide, arrested.

June 14 – Jesse Stiles, 43, of Long Beach at 17th Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Orlando Joel Villarreal, 41 of Long Beach arrested

June 27 – An unidentified man at 5400 block of Paramount Boulevard. No arrests noted.

July 17 – Martin Segura, 40, at Los Angeles Riverbed and the 91 freeway. Andrew Lozano, 31, homelessness man, arrested.

July 31 – Rickie Taylor, 27, of Long Beach at Long Beach Boulevard and Bort Street. Sean Richson, 39 of Los Angeles arrested

August 6 – Two unidentified apparently homeless men at Compton Creek and the 710 freeway. No arrests noted.

August 28 – Randy Powell, 50, experiencing homelessness at 200 block of W. Broadway. Billy Zepeda, 49 arrested.

August 15 – Michael Toloai at 3400 block of Andy Street. Justin Jackson, 40, of Los Angeles arrested.

October 12 – Thomas Mello, 36 at 200 block of Falcon Avenue. Jose Garcia-Linares, 25, and Felipe Ramirez, 27, of Long Beach arrested.

October 23 – Dajuan Hunt, 39, homelessness man at railroad right-of-way near 5300 block of Cherry Avenue . Freddie Lamont Key Jr., 40, arrested.

October 23 – Sirjohn Hardiman, 21, of Long Beach at 6200 block of Downey Ave. No arrests noted.

October 25 – Jeremy Anthony Spears, 32, of Long Beach at 100 block of La Verne Avenue. Jason Loving, 41, of Harbor City arrested.

Murdered by Beating, Unknown, or Undisclosed Method

March 11 – Chamrong So, 52, at 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway. Thongsay Ky, 58, experiencing homelessness and Brandon Brewington, 36, of Long Beach arrested.

April 20 – Jose Eduardo Viveros, 73, of Long Beach at 800 block of Elm Avenue assaulted and robbed by several assailants. Viveros died on Sept. 17. No known arrests.

Oct. 26 – Mark Johnson, 56, at 2500 block of Delta Ave. His twin brother, Marcellus Johnson arrested in his brother’s death.

November 7 – An unidentified 14-month-old girl with signs of trauma at 200 block of Louise St. Her parents, Alfredo Munoz, 40, of Long Beach and Kelly Munoz, 34, of Long Beach arrested.

November 8 – Aracely Romero, 45, of Long Beach. Erik Alcantar, 44 of Long Beach turned himself in at Tijuana, Mexico,

December 7 – Samuel Ocegueda, 28, of Long Beach was run over by a vehicle at 1700 block of Newport Ave. Isai Solis, 28, of Lynwood arrested.

December 19 – Daisy Uribe, 23, of Long Beach at 1500 block of Summit Street. A suspect then committed suicide.

Murdered by Stabbing

May 5 – An unidentified man at 200 block of West Wardlow Road. No arrests noted.

July 16 – Paz Veliz, 78, of Long Beach at 2900 block of Coolidge Street. Kevin Ngo, 31, of Long Beach arrested.
