Get Up & Move!

Each Saturday in March Musical Theatre West will celebrate women of Broadway with their Get Up & Move! series. Join us via Zoom and Venmo-What-You–Can for a 30-minute dance lesson. These classes are for anyone that wants to get up and move and join in the fun.

March 13 – Get Up & Move! with Katie Marshall 13 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. celebrating the choreographer of Oklahoma!, Carousel, Brigadoon and MORE Agnes de Mille.

March 20 – Get Up & Move! with Christine Negherbon from 11 to 11:30 a.m. PST celebrating the choreographer of The Music Man, Mame and MORE Onna White.

March 27 – Get Up & Move! with Peggy Hickey from 11 to -11:30 a.m. Peggy served as the choreographer to the Broadway hits Anastasia and A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder, as well as many MTW shows! She’ll be teaching one of her infamous audition combinations!

AOP Film Contest

The Aquarium of the Pacific has announced that it will hold its first annual high school film festival and contest, presented by Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg, and is inviting students to be a part of it. Students in grades 9-12 in Southern California are invited to create short films that dive into science and conservation. The finalists will receive cash prizes and awards.

The aquarium will debut their films during its virtual High Tide Student Film Festival and awards ceremony on June 2, 2021.

During their spring semester, students can create their 2-3 minute video on their own or through a small team of up to four other high school students. Applicants can choose from one of three topics: Responsible Seafood, Thriving in a Changing Climate and The Ocean and Me. The aquarium will provide students with background materials on each of these topics.

Three winning films will be selected from each category. Cash prizes are $2,000 for the Gold Award, $1,500 for the Silver Award and $1,000 for the Bronze Award. The aquarium will accept applications starting March 15 through April 13. For more information, visit aquariumofpacific.org/hightide.

Geneological Society

Our next Zoom meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 21. Sara Cochran’s topic will be “Irish Eyes Are Smiling: Finding Vital Records in the Land of Saints and Scholars.”

Walking Your Talk

Support Special Olympics

Through March 23, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions (AVP) shoppers will have the opportunity to donate at checkout to support Special Olympics Southern California athletes. Find your local store at SOSC.Org/AVP.

Throughout 339 Southern California stores, AVP customers will be given three donation amount options: $1, $3, or $5. They can also select a custom amount by telling the cashier. All donations collected will support SOSC athletes by providing free sports training and programming, such as virtual sports leagues, live virtual workouts, learning materials, equipment and more.

Playhouse Cleanup

On Saturday March 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., LB Playhouse will be having a cleaning and project party! Dusting, mopping, painting, weed removal and more!

Masks are required. RSVP required to manage building capacity requirements. PPE will be available for those that do not have their own.

ABBA Concert

The Fabba Show’s Virtually ABBA concert livestreams on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at www.stellartickets.com. The concert may be viewed on Apple TV, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, (iOS and Android).

The Virtually ABBA Show is a theater tribute to the world famous 70s super group has all of the excitement of their live touring show. The show is appropriate for all ages. Both concerts will be filmed live from the Covina Center for the Performing Arts in Southern California.
