Dog Loving Community

Pit Bull Appreciation Day is Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marina Vista Park, across from the Long Beach Marina. The event is open to dogs of all breeds and mixes, focusing on building our dog-loving community by connecting them to local trainers, businesses and resources.

There will be dog adoptions, multiple pack walks, free training demos, a demo on how to do a monthly wellness check on your pet, a doggy photo booth, cute merchandise, great food and coffee, and more.

Cemetery Tour

The Historical Society of Long Beach 25th Annual Historical Cemetery Tour is on Saturday, Oct. 30. Since 1995, the Historical Society of Long Beach has organized tours of the Long Beach Municipal Cemetery and Sunnyside Cemetery. First-person performances last 10 minutes and are repeated every 20 minutes from 9 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

‘Phantom of the Opera’

Featuring live accompaniment by organist Robert York, the First Congregational Church, located at 3rd & Cedar, will screen the 1925 silent horror film classic, “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney, Sr. in the title role of the deformed phantom on Halloween evening at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., masks required for entry and free will donations welcome.

Golf Fundraiser

Steel Magnolias Annual Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, Oct. 25 at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach with an 11 a.m. tee-off. Register online at http://birdease.com/SteelMagnoliasGolf or call (562) 331-8007 extension 2 or 3.

The tournament includes on course lunch, an awards reception and dinner, no-host bar and trophy presentation and prizes, including a $10,000 hole-in-one award. The Men’s Alliance of Steel Magnolias, a committee dedicated to raising funds for children with developmental special needs, will assist in the tournament.

The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach is Steel Magnolias primary beneficiary. The Stramski Center’s team of skilled multidisciplinary medical professionals is dedicated to addressing autism, sleep problems, behavioral issues, cleft lip and palate and other conditions in children.

Take Out Tuesday

Nov. 2 is “take out Tuesday and dine in too” at Naples Rib Company, 5800 E. 2nd St. in Naples. Call in take-out orders at (562) 439 7427 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. or call to make dine-in reservations from 4 to 9 pm.

Mention that you support St. Bartholomew’s Church and Naples Rib Company will credit the church with a percentage of the proceeds. All proceeds go to local charities through the St. Bartholomew Women’s Council.

Festival of Flight

The Long Beach Airport’s (LGB) Festival of Flight is set for Saturday, Nov. 6. The popular, free event, is returning with aircraft on static display, live music, food and beer trucks, activities for kids and helicopter rides for purchase.

More than 10,000 attendees are expected to attend the outdoor event between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Taxiway E, located on the west end of the airfield at 3590 E. Wardlow Rd.

Artwork, Jewelry, knick-knacks, vases, toys, etc. and you can see it all on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds from this Women’s Council event go to support local charities.
