‘Relatively Speaking’

At the Long Beach Playhouse from Nov. 5 to Dec. 3, “Relatively Speaking” is a popular British farce set in 1965. Skillfully written by playwright Alan Ayckbourn, the play centers around two couples, Ginny and Greg and Philip and Sheila. Greg and Ginny have been seeing one another for about a month.

Despite the short courtship, Greg is planning to propose to Ginny. But when he finds a pair of shoes beneath her bed that aren’t his, he becomes suspicious. And then there’s the matter of callers who hang up and unexplained gifts of candy and flowers. When Ginny tells Greg she’s planning to visit her parents, he decides to show up unannounced to meet them.

It’s a small cast, just four actors. Three are making return appearances, Jeffrey Benion, Elizabeth Ginnett Cox and Tod Walker. Making her debut is Sarah-Jane Finch. Making a confident prediction, Mooney states, “Relatively Speaking is a perfect show for the beginning of the holiday season. It will have the audience laughing from start to finish!”
