I-405 north of Studebaker/area Palo Verde: CHP says that at about 3:45 a.m. a 23-year-old Los Angeles woman allegedly drove the wrong way – northbound – at a high rate of speed in the High Occupancy Vehicle lane of the southbound 405 where she collided head-on with another vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Long Beach man. LBFD pronounced these two parties deceased at the scene, identified by the LA County Coroner’s office as Kaylee Perez, 23, of Los Angeles (CHP-alleged wrong- way driver) and Manasseh Marion, 32, of Long Beach. 7th St./Cherry Ave.: A 61-year-old Long Beach woman, Haroldine Lesne, seated at a bus bench, was struck and killed by a vehicle knocked out of control in a two vehicle collision at the intersection. An LBPD release states that at about 2:40 p.m., officers responded, found two vehicles involved and LBFD began administering medical aid “but the pedestrian ... succumbed to her injuries at the scene.” LBPD says its preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 BMW, driven by a 38-year-old resident of Long Beach, struck a 2000 GMC, driven by a 69-year-old resident of Fontana, in the 7th St./Cherry intersection, causing the driver of GMC to lose control of his vehicle and strike the pedestrian sitting on the bus bench. “Both drivers remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving were not a factor for either driver. They were positively identified with their valid driver’s licenses, had proof of insurance, and were released from the scene.”

LBPD North Division: Officers arrested Marcus Harris, 20-year-old resident of Long Beach for human trafficking of a minor, pimping and pandering of an adult, as well as a gang allegation. The events began on July 1, when officers from the North Division Directed Enforcement Team (DET) made a traffic stop on Harris who was determined to be on parole. Officers conducted a parole compliance check and found evidence that Harris was engaged in the pimping and pandering of a female adult. Vice detectives began investigating this case, obtaining two search warrants, which led to the discovery of additional evidence related to pimping and pandering. During the arrest, officers rescued a 17-year-old unreported missing female minor with Harris. Through their investigation, officers determined the female juvenile was the victim of human trafficking. The juvenile victim was reunited with relatives and provided victim-centered services. On Oct. 29, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of human trafficking of a minor, one count of pimping of an adult, as well as a gang allegation. Harris is being held on $290,000 bail as well as a parole violation.
