1100 block of 11th St., A woman standing in front of a residence with relatives says a sedan pulled up and someone fired shots at them. The rounds missed hitting the persons but officers found casings and an unoccupied vehicle and a building struck by gunfire.

March 7

Temple Ave./Anaheim St. Roughly 11 p.m. a man is shot/wounded, told police he was walking in the area when he heard shots and realized he’d been struck by gunfire. LBPD found the man in the area of 10th St./Temple Ave. and also found evidence, including bullet casings and a parked unoccupied vehicle that was struck by gunfire.

March 2

Central LB: A senior citizen is struck/wounded by gunfire at mid afternoon in the area south of 17th St./Gundry Ave. (south of LBCC’s Central LB campus) LBPD Public Information Officer Arantxa Chavarria said the shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. and the victim suffered wounds described as “non-life threatening.” Police don’t believe the victim was the intended target of the shooting, PIO Chavarria said. She said two suspects were seen running from the scene.

February 26

15th St./Pine Ave. LBPD arrests 26-year-old LB man on suspicion of trafficking a 14-year-old girl. LBPD responds after girl calls 9-1-1, says she was pistol whipped by the suspect in the area of 15th St./Pine Ave. Suspect’s bail set at $150,000.

February 2021

In February 2021 (for the second month in a row), the area covered by four Long Beach mainly working class City Council districts – CD 1 (Zendejas), CD 6 (Saro), CD 8 (Austin) + CD 9 (Richardson) – had roughly the same level of person-hit shootings per capita as Chicago citywide. Districts 1, 6, 8 and 9 had 12 person hit shootings in February, higher per capita than Chicago. Districts 1 and 6 had six shootings in February, higher per capita than Chicago. Districts 8 and 9 had six shootings in February, just under the per capita level for Chicago
