March 22

17th/Orange (south of LBCC Central LB campus). Two vehicles struck/damaged by gunfire. No persons hit. CD 6 neighborhoods have had at least 31 shootings (persons hit + casings found/person not hit + homicides) since Jan. 1, 2021.

March 21

2100 block Hullett Resident hears overnight gunfire, at dawn finds a bullet lodged in his window. CD 9/Vice Mayor Richardson.

Officers sent to a local hospital regarding a 28-year-old man with gunshot wounds.  Police describe him as uncooperative, he didn’t say where the shooting occurred or provide suspect information.

2100 block of Locust Avenue  (CD 6) LBPD says a victim’s vehicle was driving in the area when a suspect vehicle fired gunshots at the victim vehicle’s driver and front passenger, striking the front passenger. Officers found evidence, including bullet casings. “The motive is believed to be gang-related,” LBPD PIO says.  LBFD transports the wounded victim (28-year male-passenger) to a hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The 29-year-old driver wasn’t injured.

March 20

PCH/LB Blvd. (border CD1/CD6). 19-year-old man said a black sedan approached him and a suspect fired two shots at him, which missed. Shortly thereafter, an injury traffic collision occurred in the area of PCH/MLK involving the suspect vehicle and the victim said its driver was the suspect who allegedly fired at him. LBPD arrested and booked the suspect, a 20-year-old Long Beach man.

March 18

2700 block of Spaulding St., CD 4/Supernaw. About 1:30 a.m. a man is shot/wounded in Zaferia neighborhood. He said he was running near the area of 14th St/Temple Avenue (about two blocks south) when a vehicle pulled up in front of him and an unknown suspect exited the vehicle and shot him. It was the fifth shooting in CD4 – including a homicide, two persons hit/wounded and two not-hit but with casings and strike marks found – since Jan. 1, 2021.

March 16

100 block Aquarium Way, 9 p.m. hour: a man is shot while driving in a parking lot after an altercation occurred. As the victim (passsenger) and a second individual drove off, an unknown male suspect shot at their vehicle, hitting the passanger (non-life-threatening wound) but missing the second individual. LBPD PIO Allison Gallagher says the shooting appears to be gang related. CD 2/Allen.

March 11

1600 block Stanton Place, 6 p.m. hour, CD 4/Supernaw. A man (adult) is fatally shot in western part of 4th district (south of PCH and east of Cherry Ave.) LBPD’s Watch Commander says officers found a man down in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. LBFD transported the victim to a hospital where he died.
