Pacific Ave. near 10th St. An argument turned stabbing. Non-life-threateningly wounded victim and suspect knew each other. Wilmington’s Samuel Watkins, 61 was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, $30,000 for bail.

Wednesday, April 28

Rutgers and Spring Street. At 2:25 a.m., on patrol, Jerry Shultz noticed “a car parked in a small cul-de-sac. I observed two females. Let’s just say that I stumbled upon a situation of in flagrante delicto. Kind of embarrassing for all three of us. After a flurry of garments flying around, the driver said to me, ‘Oops, sorry.’ I apologized for the in flagrante delicto interruptus and both individuals thanked me for checking on them. I backed up, red-faced, and moved on.” Not a recruitment tool for Shultz’s patrol.

Spring and Palo Verde. At 2:30 p.m., some sort of catalytic convertor cutting goin’ on near John’s Burgers. A license number was gleaned from the departing truck.

Saturday, May 1 

Bellflower Blvd. and Los Coyotes Diag. On the kick-off day for National Bike Month, a possibly serious bicycle vs. automobile accident occurred at 10 a.m.

1400 block of Gaviota Ave. At 10:25 p.m. in the midst of a party goin’ on, a white sedan drive-by shooting, one person hit, dampening the party mood.

300 block of West 14th St. More. At 10:40 p.m., a woman suffered a wound in a shooting. Three male juveniles ran away from the scene.

Sixth St. and Daisy Ave. At 10:50 p.m., a 710 Freeway driver noted a following car presaging an errant area shot. Police do not know if the evening’s series of crimes are related.

Sunday, May 2

Redondo Ave. and 4th St. At 3:20 p.m., during a police department-authorized stolen vehicle pursuit, the suspect collided with a parked car and an occupied vehicle, halting at Ximeno Ave. and Pacific Coast Highway. Traffic was stopped as police detained a male and female passenger. Driver, David Michael Haynes, 28, of Long Beach was booked for offenses ranging from hit and run resulting in death or injury, possession of methamphetamines and driving without a license. Bail, $79,500.

200 block of Obispo Ave. An overnight bicyclist swerving to avoid crashing into a moving car, crashed into a parked just-purchased 2020 Dodge Charger, redesigning the back window with a hole and part of the rear end. Paramedics called, but biker walked away to enjoy National Bike Month.

Monday, May 3 

Anaheim St. and Obispo Ave. At 12:30 a.m., police found a male adult pedestrian with major injuries to his upper and lower body. The suspect fled the scene, then returned an hour later and was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs said police.

Tuesday, May 4

25th St. and Pacific Ave. At 2:55 p.m., a shooter in a white car fired upon a male in an alley causing critical injuries. The possibility of gang involvement is suspected.

Wednesday, May 5

Second St. and Ximeno Ave. At 10:30 p.m., 27-year-old Karla Baeza allegedly stabbed her 37-year-old boyfriend in the lower body. He refused treatment; she was arrested, $50,000 bail worth.

Friday, May 7

1400 block of Cherry Ave. At 7 p.m. a man was struck on the head with a “blunt object.” When he came to, the victim discovered missing money and cell phone.

Saturday, May 8

800 block of East Pacific Coast Highway. More women with knife problems. At 3:20 a.m., Anaheim’s Kristin Gigliotti, 35, who allegedly stabbed her 39-year-old boyfriend, who’s expected to survive.

7200 block of E. Carson St. At 10:26 p.m., a male adult displayed a firearm demanding “merchandise from a store clerk,” said police. No cash taken, miscellaneous electronics for swap meet bargains.

Sunday, May 9

6000 block of Cherry Ave. At 6:15 p.m., a 22-year-old woman riding a northbound 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 collided with a 1989 Econoline van as it pulled away from the curb. Despite life-saving measures by police, she died at the hospital. The 72-year-old van driver remained at the scene, had a valid driver’s license and cooperated with investigators. The victim was not licensed to operate a motorcycle. Speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision.

Monday, May 10

2000 block of Chestnut Ave. A one-chump crime-wave ended at 1:30 a.m. when arriving officers heard shots, saw a suspected gang-guy, firearm in hand. Police said inept gunslinger Alfredo Garcia, 29, of Long Beach shot at people, missed; attempted to carjack a male juvenile who drove away. For this jerkiness, bail cost: $100,000.

Tuesday, May 11

Third St. and Cerritos Ave. At 3:30 p.m., nearby resident 29-year-old Alonzo Harbin’s SUV destroyed the edifice of Lord Windsor Coffee Shop, street signage, busted a hydrant, a parklet, struck a parked car, slightly injuring an occupant causing Harbin’s arrest on suspicion of felony DUI and driving on a suspended license for a previous DUI conviction; bail is $100,000.
