Sunday, March 6

900 block of Raymond Ave. At 4 a.m., a man argued with a 15-year-old boy, who ran off when the suspect fired shots, one of which hit him in a non-life-threatening way. Officers detained a man at the scene.

700 block of Olive Ave. At 3:42 p.m., a man shot up a home from inside. He refused to exit the home, SWAT was called and helped officers establish a perimeter around the residence, with several residents around the scene evacuated. Search warrant in hand, police entered the residence, finding a gun but a gonzo suspect. No other homes were shot up.

3900 block of East Ocean Blvd. After a fight between several people at 8:45 p.m., Gavin Clason, a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach was stabbed. Paramedics attempted to save him, he died at the scene.

Monday, March 7

Tenth St. and Gardenia Ave. Special Investigations Detectives arrested Sergio Alvarez, a 26-year-old resident of Long Beach for the above murder of Gavin Clason on Ocean Boulevard. Booked on one count of murder and one count of robbery, Alvarez was held on $2 million bail.

Tuesday, March 8

Pacific Coast Hwy & Cherry Ave. At 7:52 p.m., four vehicles collided, one of which went into a building. As a vehicle was carrying two infants in car seats, paramedics transported the infants with the parent. Then came the DUI part, with a field sobriety test for Angelica Beatris Jimenez, a 34-year-old resident of Los Angeles, arrested and booked for DUI causing injury. Bail: $100,000.

Wednesday, March 9

23rd St. near Bellflower Blvd. An LAPD pursuit of a reportedly stolen white SUV began at 3:33 p.m. in Wilmington, wended its way over the new unnamed Gerald Desmond replacement bridge to the area of Stearns and Bellflower Blvd where it drove the wrong way, made several U-turns into a gas station and a mini-mall sidewalk, almost brushing a couple that seemed oblivious to the danger behind them, almost hit a second pedestrian who jumped out of the way, stopped on 23rd St. The driver got out, returned to his car to collect something, began to walk, then run away as the authorities did a live capture at 4 p.m. sharp.

Thursday, March 10

200 block of East 57th St. At 7:16 p.m., a man was shot in the upper body. The 29-year-old alleged gunman did the following: he shot at and missed a woman on the same block while he tried to steal her car, which quickly gave out on him. He went to the 80 block of East 55th Street where he shot another man in the upper body. Both victims are expected to survive at the hospital. Next block over, at gunpoint, he got in a woman’s car, kidnapping her as he shot a man, creating a graze wound to the upper body. Forcing the woman to drive, the gunman took her inside a church at Alameda Street in Carson, holding her hostage. At 8:30 p.m., police located the gunman Thomas Seve, 29, inside the church, alongside the woman he kidnapped who was able to escape. After an hours-long SWAT standoff, in which a hostage negotiator tried to convince the gunman to surrender, the suspect ended things with a self-inflicted gunshot to the upper and lower body, no officers firing shots.

Friday, March 11

Southbound 405 Freeway at Cherry Avenue exit. At 11 p.m., a car crash necessitated the use of “Jaws of Life” to extract three people from the wreckage, two of whom were taken to a hospital.

Saturday, March 12

Lakewood Blvd. and Wardlow Rd. In a single-vehicle rollover crash that struck a tree at 10:30 a.m., driver Keith Watts, 64, later died.

Sunday, March 13

1900 block of East Ocean Blvd. At 8 a.m., officers found the body of Genesis Rivera, 28, lying adjacent to a building. Homicide detectives are investigating the incident as murder.

23rd St. and Orange Ave. Police attempted a traffic stop near Burnett Street and Walnut Avenue at 11:21 a.m. The vehicle drove away, crashed into a second vehicle and two males fled on foot leaving the man and woman in the other vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries.

Thursday, March 17

100 block of Pine Ave. At 10:44 a.m., metal pipes were stolen from the building that once housed the popular Federal Bar. One man was detained, no arrests. Said one local, “So now we’re down to stealing parts of the building itself.”

Friday, March 18

Bellflower Blvd and Stearns St. At 10:54 p.m., a street takeover, followed by another at Granada Avenue and Second Street at 11:15 p.m., concluding with a 12:50 a.m. Paramount Boulevard and South Street takeover resulting in 8 citations and two tows.

Sunday, March 20

710 near Del Amo Blvd. A 5:40 p.m. freeway takeover, 100 cars about to do their donut thing. At 5:54 p.m., with about 50 cars still on scene, the CHP message was “help.”

Recreation Park. At 6:20 p.m., a park rest room takeover by one naked man and one naked woman.
