Ocean Blvd. and Loma Ave. At 1:15 p.m., a naked prone man in the street skillfully evaded capture by authorities who eventually surrounded and trapped the clothing-deprived gent.

Pacific Coast Hwy. and Junipero Ave. At 8:07 p.m., police pulled over a vehicle with expired registration. Searching the vehicle, officers seized narcotics and cash, arresting the driver, 31-year-old Johnnie Lee Brown III, booked for an array of controlled substance and firearm offenses. Bail: $100,000. Search warranting Brown’s 2200 block of Cedar Avenue residence, officers located firearms and ammunition. Davon Robinson, 28, was arrested at the home for firearm offenses, false impersonation, outstanding warrants. Bail: $170,000.

Friday, March 25

4400 block of Pacific Coast Hwy. A fight between transients armed with objects at 11:15 a.m. was the parking lot entertainment for more subdued Chic-Fil-A customers.

600 block of Atlantic Ave. On a day of fast-food follies, a customer with his penis hanging out of his trousers at 11:25 a.m. gave an updated meaning to Jack-In-the-Box.

Seventh St. and Atlantic Ave. At 8:14 p.m., a man returned to his tent, found 32-year-old Paul Stewart Hugh Jr. inside. Battling ensued. Hugh Jr. allegedly stabbed him with a screwdriver causing non-life-threatening wounds. Seen walking nearby with a pair of scissors, Hugh Jr. was arrested for burglary, assault, resisting a public officer and driving with a suspended license. Bail: $125,000.

Sunday, March 27

Obispo Ave. and 15th St. At 11:10 a.m., two men, thought to have grabbed $3,500 in merchandise from a Torrance Verizon store, fled with a getaway driver with Torrance police in pursuit onto Broadway to Obispo, then over a dozen blocks north, colliding with at least pursuing police vehicle. Some residents were evacuated while others were ordered to shelter in place as authorities from various local departments, Long Beach SWAT, Signal Hill, Torrance, CHP worked to find two by 2 p.m. and the third by 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported; stolen stuff fate unknown.

San Anseline Ave. near Wardlow Rd. A Nextdoor poster wrote, at 1 p.m., “There was a fight with a group of men and it got out of hand and someone let out around five shots. I don’t believe anyone was hit but they all jumped in their cars and sped away. I believe they were attending a funeral at the church.”

Orange Ave. and South St. At 9 p.m., 300 cars and drivers gathered to throw objects at passing police vehicles.

Monday, March 28

Pacific Coast Hwy. and Gundry Ave. With the westbound roadway closed at noon by a rain and pump station-caused sinkhole, motorists had to choose numerical side streets or jutting north into meandering Signal Hill pathways.

5500 block of Stearns St. A woman in her 30s stole a less-than-secured phone from a sleeping man near his blanket at 2:45 p.m. The driver of a car waiting for a light jumped out, told her to stop the steal, it was his phone, return it, which she did. The homeless guy said “thanks,” went back to sleep with his apparently pricey phone tucked into a TJ’s bag.

Tuesday, March 29

400 block of South St. At 12:44 a.m. a man in his 20s, shot multiple times in the upper body after an argument, taken to a hospital, later died from his injuries. The motive appears to be gang-related.

Fourth St. and Bonito Ave. At 11:47 a.m., a man with stab wounds to the upper and lower body. Transported to a hospital, expected to survive.

1100 block of E. Wardlow Rd. At 11:20 p.m., two men fought, went for their guns, missed. Wubay Shin White, 22 of Las Vegas was arrested for attempted murder, concealed weapon and loaded firearm charges, bail at $1 million. Police are seeking the duelist.

Wednesday, March 30

Anaheim St. and I St. At 6:25 p.m., a female acquaintance argued with, then stabbed a woman in the lower body. She was then treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Thursday, March 31

405 at Cherry Ave. At 9:25 a.m., a “transient” on the 405 overpass was holding an electric scooter over passing traffic as if he were about to drop it. No limit to the creative ways of using these popular devices.

Friday, April 1

6100 block of Long Beach Blvd. At 9 p.m., Long Beach resident, 46-year-old Ryan Pearson and a group of neighborhood people were approached by a male with whom the group began arguing. Words exchanged, the suspect shot at them, hitting Pearson who later died at a hospital. Police are looking for the gunman and those who argued with him.

1900 block of Magnolia Ave. Unaware a license place is needed to drive a car on the street, much less a driver’s license, when Michael Anthony Jaquez, 27, was pulled over, he had neither, but he did have drugs, guns and a child in the car. To the array of controlled substance and firearm offenses, add willful cruelty to a child. Bail: $60,000.
