Ocean Blvd. and Cherry Ave. At 2:05 a.m., police interviewed a man while treated with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body; said he was in a parked vehicle on Ocean Boulevard when he heard gunfire, discovering he’d been struck. Officers went to the location; no crime scene was located.

Monday, June 13

2200 E. Seventh St. At 5:20 p.m., a grown man began attacking a stack of defenseless lumber at a construction site.

Long Beach Blvd. and 49th St. At 10:35 p.m., a man was shot and died at the scene.

Friday, June 17

3900 block of Allin St. At 8:23 a.m., a fire broke out on the second floor of a multi-unit building and spread to the third floor. During the fire fight, a powerful blast from the second-floor apartment shook the structure. Two firefighters were hospitalized with minor burns and hearing injuries from the explosion, a third with burns and a fourth with a hearing injury. The fire was extinguished at 8:39 a.m. Neighbors of the unoccupied second floor unit owned by a trust revealed it was used for storage of boxes. “Fireworks were involved, however, the cause of the fire remains under investigation,” Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said. Whether these explosives were destined for use on the Fourth is unknown. Additional fireworks on the second floor balcony were secured. No residents were hurt in the blaze, but at least two people were displaced.

3600 Block of E. Seventh St. At 6:57 p.m., two men argued, one discharged a firearm, fleeing in a black vehicle. Police found said vehicle near the 700 block of Loma Avenue, arrested the driver, Joshua Adolfo Martinez, a 20-year-old Long Beach resident and seized a firearm from inside the vehicle. Booked for assault, gun and controlled substance charges. Bail: $50,000. No injuries were reported.

400 block of West Ninth St. At 7:40 p.m., a man suffering multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body was uncooperative, telling officers he was walking when somebody shot him. He wouldn’t disclose the where of the shooting.

Saturday, June 18

Ocean Blvd. and Termino Ave. At 10:20 p.m. a westbound 1998 Toyota pick-up truck on Ocean Boulevard turned left onto southbound Termino Avenue, failing to yield to an oncoming eastbound 2014 Toyota Corolla, thus a collision. The pick-up driver, a 49-year-old male resident of Compton later died of his injuries. The Corolla driver from Cerritos stayed at the scene and was cooperative.

Sunday, June 19

4200 block of Anaheim St. At 8:45 p.m., a driver of a car, 30-year-old Leevi Matuni Maseuli of Palmdale was shot and killed. His seven-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle during the shooting, but was not struck by gunfire. The boy then went to a nearby Arco station to get help. He did suffer minor non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, then reunited with this mother.

Tuesday, June 21

4500 Los Coyotes Diag. At 8:25 a.m., a female attempted to steal a man’s coffee, succeeding in spilling it all over him. Refills possible, cleaning bills and medical help optional.

Atherton St. At 8:30 a.m., in our local Area 51 “an older man in a white Kia decided to ram the gate open at the end of Atherton at high speed. The chain link gate is utterly destroyed. The Kia is gone with a severely damaged front end apparently. The road is private, the gate is maintained by the county and access includes every agency in the state it seems. Everyone wants to use this entrance but no one wants to maintain it.” One response, “guess they were tired of climbing it.” Used as LADWP access to their transmission line right-of-way originating at their Second St. and Westminster Blvd. steam plant, thus the gateless fence.

2800 block of Studebaker Rd. At 8:25 p.m., a man stabbed in the upper body after an argument that escalated had non-life-threatening injuries. Officers located the homeless suspect, Patrick Wayne Thurmond, 56, arrested him, took away his knife. Bail: $30,000.

6100 block of Atlantic Ave. At 9:47 p.m., a man said he was shot at by a gun person in a passing car. Bullet holes in a parked car confirmed his tale.

Wednesday, June 22

200 block of Obispo Ave. At 4 a.m., in a dress rehearsal for an explosive Fourth of July, thunder and lightning set off car alarms, with car owners scurrying outside in the 0.11 inches of rain checking for damage and rolled up car windows, most of which were.

Saturday, June 25

8100 block of E. Wardlow Rd. At 5:02 a.m., a homelessness male inside his tent got into an argument that escalated to a shooting causing non-life-threatening injuries to the tented one.

2400 block of Cedar Ave. At 10:01 p.m., still another shooting, this time residences and vehicles in the area were also struck by bullets. Non-life-threatening lower body injuries.

Sunday, June 26

3900 block of Anaheim St. At 4:34 p.m., yet another upper body shooting, the male victim in stable condition.
