Monday, July 25

1900 block of Pine Ave. At 10:51 p.m., patrol officers heard multiple gunshots from the alleyway where they located several casings, indicating a shooting had happened. With suspects or victims nowhere to be found, evidence collected, the investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday July 26

Orange Ave. and Goldfield Ave. At 1:23 a.m., a man told police he was driving when two other men pulled up and shot at him. The victim was unhurt, not so for the victim’s vehicle, which was struck. The shooters then fled.

67th St. and Atlantic Ave. At 2:05 a.m., male adult victim was stabbed in a non-life-threatening way to his upper body, the result of argument, which resulted in the stabbing. The stabber was gone while the victim was taken to the hospital.

400 block of W. Cowles St. At 3:14 a.m., a man and a woman were arguing, when the woman stabbed the man multiple times in the upper body then helped herself to some of the victim’s property. With non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body, the man was transported to a hospital.

2000 block of Beverly Plaza. At 3:41 a.m., a man was seated in his vehicle when another man pulled on the vehicle’s door handle. The man screamed and the handle puller pointed a firearm at him, but did not shoot, fleeing the scene instead.

Lakewood Blvd. at 23rd St. At 5:20 p.m., 7-year-old Gabriel Garate of Long Beach and his father had the right-of-way while crossing Lakewood when a pickup’s driver made a left turn from 23rd to southbound Lakewood and failed to yield, fatally striking the boy. It was unclear if the father was injured. The driver, James Barnes, 57, of Desert Hot Springs cooperated with officers but was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. Booked and released after posting a $50,000 bond.

Wednesday, July 27

Carson St. and Woodruff Ave. At 7:30 a.m., a man collapsed on the Heartwell Park walking path and was declared deceased by paramedics. One witness described him as garbed in “workout” clothing.

100 block of W. 49th St. At 6:15 p.m., shooters left evidence of their activity, including casings, all indications a shooting had occurred. With no victim or suspect on scene, it’s now an investigation.

Long Beach. At 7:45 p.m., officers talked to a man in the hospital about the non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. He had heard gunshots outside of his residence, got his rifle and accidentally shot himself, then self-transported to a local hospital.

Friday, July 29

1400 block of Gundry Ave. At 12:28 a.m., officers went to help a 33-year-old male who been injured. After attempts to save him, the man was pronounced deceased.

Saturday, July 30

Pacific Coast Hwy. just east of the Terminal Island Fwy. At 10:10 p.m., while crossing Pacific Coast Highway outside of a crosswalk, a woman was struck by a westbound 2005 Dodge Durango. The driver identified as a Compton man stopped to help, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Taken a local hospital in critical condition, on Wednesday, police were notified that the woman died.

Sunday, July 31

Artesia Blvd. and the 710 Fwy. At 12:33 a.m., a male adult was shot in his upper body with non-life-threatening injuries. Gang detectives were called in

1700 block of Long Beach Blvd. At 2:22 a.m., more shooters left more evidence of their activity, including casings, all indications a shooting had occurred. With no victim or suspect on scene, as with the earlier similar call, it’s all about the investigation.

Monday, August 1

2600 block of East Spaulding St. At noon, a 15-year-old male told police was stabbed in the upper body after a verbal dispute with two unknown male suspects. The victim self-transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

900 block of East Nardo Ct. At 7:19 p.m., officers responded to a shots call. Upon arrival, they located evidence of a shooting, including casings.

Friday, August 5

400 block of Orange Ave. At 12:38 a.m., officers on patrol heard multiple gunshots. Officers were unable to locate the source.

Springdale West Apartments, 3100 block of W. Spring St. At 3:22 p.m., 19-year-old Maywood resident Louis Longeno was shot and later died at the hospital. SWAT was called in to locate a 16-year-old suspect, who instead turned himself in more than three hours after the fatal shooting. Some neighbors said it was a dice game gone wrong, shades of “Stagger Lee.”

900 block of Maine Ave. At 10:17 p.m., officers found bullet casings, meaning a shooting had occurred. but little else.

Saturday, August 6

900 block of Via Wanda. At 1:33 a.m., officers found bullet casings and a parked unoccupied car with bullet holes, meaning a shooting had occurred.

Sunday, August 7

Pacific Coast Hwy. and Pine Ave. At 2:43 a.m., when patrol officers made a traffic stop, a male passenger stated he was shot in the lower body after an argument. He was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound. Near the traffic stop, police found a casing, indicating a shooting had occurred.
