Saturday., August 27

300 block of Market St. At 3:04 a.m., in the wee hours, two shooters failed to shoot their mutual human targets, then left for additional practice. Police found evidence, casings and the like, meaning a shooting had occurred. With the shooters gonzo, no victim or weapons, it boiled down to an investigation ongoing.

1900 block of Pine Ave. At 9:24 p.m., more mysterious gunfire heard by patrol officers. They looked for shooters, found evidence, including casings, sure enough, a shooting had occurred. As with the earlier gunshot case, the investigation is ongoing.

Sunday, August 28

East Seventh St. and Park Ave. At 2:33 a.m., a case of road rage was punctuated by gunfire between both vehicles. A road rager collided with an uninvolved vehicle,  which then collided into an unoccupied residence. Both road rage participants fleeing the scene. However, came news of a gunshot victim showing up at a hospital. There, three adults were determined to be occupants of the vehicle that caused the chain of collisions.

A woman sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body; the other occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Officers determined the driver at the hospital was a shooting suspect and subsequently arrested him and seized a firearm. The suspect was identified as Jean Claude Lewis, a 48-year-old resident of Long Beach, arrested for one count of carrying a loaded firearm, and one count of driving with a suspended license. Bail: $60,000. The other male driver remains gonzo. The investigation is ongoing.

Monday, August 29

Crystal Court and 8th St. At 1:44 a.m., still another shots-fired call, with evidence aplenty, casings, but nary a victim, suspect or weapon. The investigation is ongoing became the watchword.

1600 block Pine Ave. At 7:04 a.m., this time, a woman was there claiming she’d been shot at, but not hit.  There was evidence, including casings, were found, but aside from the intended victim, no suspect, no weapon. The investigation is ongoing.

100 block of Bort St. At 7:31 a.m., not unlike previous shootings, there were casings. Suspects? No. Victim? No. Ongoing investigation? Yes.

800 block of East 19th St. At 8:23 p.m., two males shot their wads, namely firearms while driving by, then without warning, fled the scene before police got there.  Good news, there were no gunshot victims found, so now it’s up to investigators.

64th St. and Johnson Ave. According to a Nextdoor post, at 8:11 p.m., while attempting an improvised Johnson donut maneuver, the driver of a blue Dodge Magnum lost control and collided with a parked Chevy Avalanche, causing significant damage to both cars. Embarrassed by lack of donut skills, the driver and passenger of the Magnum ran away on 64th Street. Police were called, the Magnum was impounded.

A Nextdoor poster responded, “The person that owns the Magnum should have the car confiscated and sold and the money given to the owner of the Chevy. Along with whatever comes out of the insurance settlement.” That is, if the Magnum wasn’t a stolen car.

2100 block of Spaulding St. At 10:04 p.m., after attempting to break up a dispute between multiple subjects, a man suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body, yet refused medical treatment. The stabber thusly fled. The investigation is ongoing.

200 block of W. Pacific Coast Hwy. At 11:32 p.m., a man showed up at a hospital with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper and lower body. He told police he got into a dispute with a man who solved the argument by stabbing him. Police could not locate a crime scene or the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday, August 31

Paramount Blvd and Coolidge St. At 4:49 a.m., a man was struck by a southbound vehicle on Paramount Boulevard and was soon declared deceased. The male adult driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Thursday, September 1

3300 block of South Street At 12:40 a.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of South Street. Officers rendered aid to the pedestrian until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and determined the pedestrian was deceased at the scene. The pedestrian apparently was walking northbound across South Street, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a Honda that was being driven by an adult resident of the City of Lakewood. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Rainbow Harbor. Came reports of a naked female refusing to get off the boat not licensed for public nudity at 9:25 a.m., accompanied by reports of a stolen boat, which may suggest a very unique crime ring.

5000 block of Garford St. With 30 college age males making noise in the carport at 11 p.m., a female resident created her own rumble in this jumble of voices and parking issues.

5400 block of Stearns St. In connection with a homeless camp setting up at 11 p.m., there was also the beginnings of a campfire on an especially steamy night.
