Valentine’s Day weddings for only $14 are being offered at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel in Long Beach. One of the most popular days for weddings, the chapel is doing them every half hour on Feb. 14.

The Helpful Honda People will be there as they have in the past years handing out special dream vacation packages to a few lucky couples.

Win a Trip to Super Bowl

This January, the American Red Cross and Pro Football Hall of Famer and blood donor Peyton Manning are asking people to score big for patients in need – while getting a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona – by giving blood or platelets.

The start of the new year marks National Blood Donor Month – a time to celebrate those who generously roll up a sleeve to keep blood products stocked for hospitals providing critical care. As the busy holiday season winds down and the threat of severe winter weather and seasonal illness cases continue to rise, January can be a tough time for donors to make and keep appointments.

To book a time to give, visit RedCrossBlood.org, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or call 1-800-RED CROSS.

In partnership with the National Football League (NFL), those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma Jan. 1-31, will be automatically entered to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVII, including access to day-of, in-stadium pre-game activities, tickets to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare to Phoenix, three-night hotel accommodations plus a $500 gift card for expenses.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood

Day After Day

P3 Theatre Company brings in the new year with its previously produced, award-winning production of Day After Day (The Life and Music of Doris Day) by Tony Santamauro. It runs Jan. 20 to Feb. 5, at the Second Story Theatre in Hermosa Beach.

Day After Day is a sweet nostalgic musical. It takes you on a trip down memory lane by portraying the life of America’s wholesome sweetheart, Doris Day, from age 16 up into her 40s. This journey features songs like “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” “Sentimental Journey,” “Secret Love,” “It’s Magic,” “A Guy is a Guy” and “Que Sera Sera” that turned Doris Day into America’s Sweetheart.

Tickets range from $33 to $38 and may be purchased by phone at (714) 689-8116, online at www.p3theatre.biz, or in person on performance days at the Second Story Theatre at 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach.

ICT Season Opens

Before there was Rent, there was tick, tick… BOOM!. International City Theatre opens its 2023 “Embracing the Future” season with a pop/rock musical by Jonathan Larson about the courage it takes to follow one’s dreams. The director is Kari Hayter, and music director Anthony Zediker helms the live band.

tick, tick… BOOM! opens Feb. 17 at ICT’s home in the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, where performances continue through March 5. Two low-priced previews take place on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

tick, tick… BOOM! is Larson’s funny, moving, autobiographical work about an aspiring composer trying to write the great American musical, even as time and life seem to pass him by.

Originally written and performed by Larson as a musical monologue, it was adapted into a three-person musical by playwright David Auburn (Proof) after Larson’s death. The result is a revealing look at the man who would go on to posthumously receive three Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his revolutionary rock musical, Rent.

Jon (Ernesto Figueroa) is an aspiring composer living in SoHo and waiting tables, his first big break on the horizon but always out of reach. His best friend (Phillip J. Lewis) is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, and his girlfriend (Samantha M. Lawrence) wants to get married and move out of the city. But Jon continues to hold fast to his dreams — even as he questions his life choices on the eve of his 30th birthday.

tick, tick… BOOM! runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., Feb. 17 through March 5. Two preview performances take place on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, Feb. 16, both at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $49 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (except Feb. 17, opening night, for which tickets are $55 and include a post-show reception), and $52 at Sunday matinees. Low-priced tickets to previews are $37.

For more information and to purchase tickets, call (562) 436-4610 or go to www.InternationalCityTheatre.org.
