Sunday, January 1

Harbor Scenic Dr. and Ocean Blvd. At 11:10 p.m., while trying to cross traffic lanes on foot under the Ocean Boulevard bridge, a man was fatally struck by a 2013 Nissan Altima. The driver, a 20-year-old Lakewood resident stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Wednesday, January 4

3500 block of East Broadway.  An employee told police a coworker “brought firearms to their place of work and made threats of shooting his coworkers. The victim further stated that the suspect regularly carried a firearm on his person.” Detectives obtained a Gun Violence Emergency Protective Order, restraining the suspect from the firearms and an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Thursday, January 5

East Plymouth St. At 9:44 p.m. two women were approached by a vehicle accompanied by gunfire missing the female targets. No crime scene located and no injuries found.

Friday, January 6 

1200 block of Lime Ave. At 2:20 a.m., someone shot into an inhabited dwelling, bullet casings and strike marks still on scene. No injuries.

5500 block of Long Beach Blvd. At 8:32 p.m., a man in the driver side of his vehicle was shot in the upper body and died. The suspect fled the area on foot.

Saturday, January 7

2200 block of Cedar Ave. At 9:10 p.m. police were examined strike marks, a blood trail but no victim. Suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body, the victim later showed up at a hospital.

200 block of Obispo Ave. Twas the day before Christmas, a mattress pitched out a second floor apartment ended up on the side of a first floor apartment, not appreciated by that resident, who on Jan. 7 replaced it in front of the staircase leading to the second floor, blocking all egress and access. A squabble ensued, police called in to help out and by 10:30 p.m., the mattress was back by the first floor wall. Days later, it was hauled away.

Sunday, January 8

1700 block of Locust Ave. At 9:24 p.m., a woman arrived home, discovering it had been struck by gunfire while she was away. Officers located ballistic evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries.

900 block of Daisy Ave. As Jaevion Tasby, 30, of Long Beach stood in front of an apartment building at 9:54 a.m., another man approached, pulled a gun and shot him multiple times leaving Tasby injured on the sidewalk. Firefighters took Tasby to a hospital, where he died.

Monday, January 9

3500 block of East Broadway. At 5:20 p.m., detectives located the Jan. 4 threats to co-workers suspect, arrested Aiken Bui, 35, during a traffic stop. A SWAT team, gang detectives and patrol officers conducted a search warrant of the suspect’s Seal Beach residence, seizing six firearms, including several illegal assault weapons. Bui was booked threatening a crime with intent to terrorize and possession of an assault weapon. Bail: $100,000.

Wednesday, January 11

1400 block of Gaylord St. “Hey buddy, want to buy a slightly used fire hydrant?” Several months of hydrant thefts ended when police discovered a car matching one of the suspect vehicle descriptions in the theft wave, arresting a suspect. Meanwhile, across town, a second set of officers located a second vehicle near 17th Street and Cedar Avenue matching the description of another car used in a separate set of thefts, meaning two arrests of two separate alleged hydrant rings. Four residents of L.A., Paramount and Hawthorne were booked for grand theft and receiving stolen property with bail ranging from $30,000 to $60,000. Long Beach resident Bradley Schreiner, 61, was booked for one count of theft. Some say the thieves turned off the water before their act lest large sprays of H20 might give them away in the act.

Thursday, January 12

5500 block of El Parque St. At 2:03 a.m., detached garage burglary; power tools stolen, suspects caught. Martin Petronelo-Pensado, 22, of Long Beach booked for first-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance and possession of burglary tools. Bail: $60,000. Jennifer Medina, 22, of Long Beach, booked on similar charges. Bail: $50,000. The loot was recovered by police.

Saturday, January 14

500 block of Queensway Dr. At 3:57 a.m., a man broke a window of a parked RV with a brick. A man inside the RV shot at the broken window, striking the brick chucker. The RV occupant was detained.

The Peninsula. It rained, a lot, nearly 1.25 inches. At 3 p.m., flooding was detected on several areas of the Peninsula, 3500 block of Santa Fe Avenue, Division Street and St. Joseph Avenue. Traffic was impeded by an Orange Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway sinkhole and the Metro A Line lost power at Long Beach Boulevard between 10th and 12th Streets when a pole fire cut the electricity.

1500 block of W. 31st St. At 1:51 p.m. two men and a youth at the Silverado Park basketball courts were hit when a driver and an unidentified person at the courts got into a gunfight. Two men suffered non-life-threatening injuries, 17-year-old, Khalil Saleem of Long Beach, a well-liked Lakewood High School football player, passed away.

1300 block of Alamitos Ave. At 7:19 p.m., a firearm was negligently discharged.
