Monday, October 30

300 block of East Market St. At 1:40 p.m., a woman shot a man in the upper body with non-life-threatening injuries. With a search warrant at the 300 block of Artesia Lane, at 6:49 p.m., police arrested Chantel Melendez, 31, for the shooting and attempted murder. Bail: $1,040,000, Angel Marquez, 28, for attempted murder. Bail: $1,000,000 and Edwin Jonathan Soriano, 31, for a no-bail warrant.

Tuesday, October 31

San Gabriel Riverbed at Atherton St. At 5 p.m., a biologist working with the DWP, “caught three men attempting to poach sea turtles. They hopped the fence and entered the riverbed with a boogie board and a large casting net. Once they saw me approaching, they quickly exited the water and hopped back over the fence entering the neighborhood south of Atherton.” CDFW Tip Line: 888 334-2258.

Long Beach Blvd. and Artesia Blvd. At 11:56 p.m., as a man drove out of a parking lot, he heard presumed gunfire, noticed his vehicle had been gunfire struck, so he collided with the center median.

Wednesday, November 1

500 E. Broadway. At 2 p.m., a man exposed himself in the window of the 24-hour Salon 500 for five minutes. The salon owner told ABC-TV News, “It’s just gotten out of hand, completely out of hand.” Her turn of phrase. Redolent of a similar incident on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at a salon at 2300 block of Bellflower Boulevard where a man exposed his genitals for an extended period.

4500 block of Atlantic Ave. At 4:28 p.m., a man holding a dirk/dagger style of knife refused to put it down. After a Mental Evaluation Team (MET) officer attempted to de-escalate the situation, the man refused to surrender. SWAT used a 40mm less-lethal round and a CEW (Conducted Electrical Weapon). No surrender. Solved with a K9, the suspect in custody and on his way to a hospital with minor injuries. Medically cleared, Patrick Dean Parks, 44, of Los Angeles was booked for weapon and resisting charges.

1100 block of Hill St. At 5:58 p.m., two men fought, one stabbed in the upper body, to the hospital, critical but stable. Officers recovered the knife. Stabber, gonzo.

Thursday, November 2

200 block of W. 14th St. At 4 a.m., detectives and the SWAT team served a search warrant over the murder of Jose Rodriguez, 23, on June 24, 2020, arresting Armando Hernandez, 26, of Long Beach. Booked for murder; bail: $2,000,000.

Friday, November 3

4438 Pacific Coast Hwy. At 8:30 p.m., Anaheim police pursued an allegedly stolen BMW driven by a female who maneuvered across opposite lanes of the highway, settling on a evasion solution: the LA Fitness garage, now the best hiding place for purloined and pursued cars in town.

Louise St. and Pacific Ave. At 11 p.m., LAPD black and whites pursued two in a vehicle out of Carson onto a dead end street, where they bailed, obscured in their foot-flight in a fog bank.

Saturday, November 4

1000 block of Via Wanda. At 5:09 p.m., a gunman shot an inhabited building, nobody hurt.

Sunday, November 5

605 Fwy. and Spring St. At 6 p.m., police pursued a white sedan on the southbound 605 Freeway to Spring Street where the driver cruised the Plaza and airport area, finishing his tour in Whittier with the arrest of a man and a woman at the Travel Inn.

Wednesday, November 8

14th St. and Locust Ave. At 5:01 a.m., a shooter shot, then left

300 block of 69th Way. At 8:57 a.m., when a woman was stabbed, police confronted a knife-holding man who refused “drop it” orders; an officer-involved shooting followed.

Thursday, November 9

South St. and California Ave. At 3:15 p.m., a southbound car ran a stop sign, collided with a Long Beach Transit bus, both vehicles crashing into and damaging a two-story building and injuring 14 people including the bus driver. As the car was removed by a tow truck, it was enveloped in flames, quickly put out. Ground floor restaurant, Boujie Crab was closed, but had to be boarded up with upstairs apartments also damaged.

Friday, November 10

100 block of W. Ocean Blvd. At 8:12 p.m., men fought, one shot the other in a lower body non-life-threatening way.

Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and Pacific Coast Hwy. At 8:33 p.m., two men in two groups gun fought and shot, causing non-life-threatening upper body wounds to two women.

1200 block of Chestnut Ave. At 10:54 p.m., two men in two groups gun fought, nobody hit.

Saturday, November 11

2800 block of Sawyer Sr. At 6:25 p.m., two men fought, one was stabbed.

Sunday, November 12

Second St. and Nieto Ave. At 12:59 a.m., two men fought, one shot into the air. Derian Danzall Tasby, 34, of Gardena was arrested for weapons and assault charges. Bail: $35,000.

6600 block of Downey Ave. At 3:34 a.m., a walking man heard yelling and gunfire, saw he’d been shot.

1400 block of Studebaker Rd. At 10:46 p.m., a no-injury shooting occurred.
