Saturday, September 13

5600 block of Linden Ave. At 11:40 a.m., after a man self-transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body, he told police he was approached by two suspects that led to a tiff, one of the suspects stabbing him. Officers did not locate evidence indicating a stabbing had occurred.

Tuesday, September 16

6300 block of Cherry Ave. At 4:49 p.m., after a two-man altercation, Daniel Eleazer Holgun, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach, stabbed the co-arguer. He was booked for battery and exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm. Bail: $10,000.

600 block of E. Artesia Blvd. At 6:23 p.m., two women approached a lone female, with whom they argued, fought and stabbed. Some deduce a history of fighting females in the area.

Wednesday, September 17

2100 block of Santa Fe Ave. At 5:39 p.m., two fighting male juveniles escalated to a stabbing, a minor injury, a hospital visit and a police report.

East Long Beach. It was a 9:05 p.m. lights-out for residents near Bellflower Boulevard, Spring Street, Palo Verde Avenue and Carson Street for four and a half hours at 1:20 a.m., when let there be light became reality, most sleeping residents awakened by appliances they hadn’t been able to turn off before “surprise!”

Friday, September 19

East Long Beach. Return of the SCE power outage at 2 p.m., power restored at 2:40 p.m.

Saturday, September 20

10th St. and Obispo Ave. As reported to police at 5:42 p.m., vandals sprayed anti-LGBTQ+ language on a utility box in front of the Long Beach Pride location. A swastika and the acronym “MAGA” were painted with other derogatory language. The city’s graffiti-removal team was dispatched to remove the vandalism

Sunday September 21

3500 block of Linden Ave. At 7:21 a.m., a fire in a three-story apartment building resulted in the demise of 32 cats and one dog intended for adoption. No humans were injured or burned, but an apartment had “significant damage,” according to the fire department.

900 block of Ohio Ave. At 10:53 p.m., a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body was uncooperative with the who or the why.

Tuesday, September 23

Pine Ave. and Broadway. A 2 a.m. attempted robbery at a 7-Eleven caused two employees to run out of the convenience store and contact authorities. As the male suspect was barricaded inside the 7-Eleven and would not come out, an armored SWAT vehicle, multiple police vehicles, a robot and flash-bang device were deployed. Broadway from Pacific Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard and Pine Avenue from 1st Street to 3rd Street were closed to traffic and impeded citizen mobility. At 6:30 a.m., police entered the store to find the suspect gonzo, either through being raptured or via the ceiling, upstairs and out of a back exit.

Cherry Ave. and Curry St. At 4 a.m., when a southbound 2015 Honda Civic passed Curry Street and swerved to avoid a man in the roadway, he struck a female pedestrian, Shalanda Young, 36 of Long Beach, who died at the scene. The driver of the Civic, a 30-year-old resident of Norwalk, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Alley at 2900 block Knoxville Ave. At 8:08 a.m., a male in full cardiac arrest was given unsuccessful life-saving measures and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Wednesday, September 24

East Second St. near Orange Ave. At 11:35 a.m., a two-alarm attic fire was partially knocked down at 12:30 p.m., with crews working to ensure there were no remaining embers in the steep angled roof, difficult for firefighters to access. No injuries were immediately reported. It was not immediately clear if anyone was displaced by the blaze.

Saturday, September 27

5300 block of Brittain St. A 3:32 a.m. suspected kidnapping began as felony domestic violence toward a woman, whom after the assault, was forced into a vehicle which was driven away. “I heard a car flying down Stearnlee at that time which woke me up and I looked out our front window to see at least 5 or 6 more cop cars speed down the street,” said a resident on Nextdoor. “About 20 minutes later a fire engine or ambulance drove down in the same direction with its lights on but no siren.” The pursuit was short-lived on the 5300 block of Hanbury Street, where at least 11 black and whites pulled over a red sedan and made an arrest.  “The victim sustained injuries and declined medical attention,” said a police spokesperson. A nearby resident was asked if he had heard a woman screaming. No, he hadn’t. The police presence lasted until 5 a.m. while the suspected kidnapper was arrested and booked.

Willow St. and Easy Ave. At 10:50 p.m., an eastbound 2002 Toyota Camry drove onto the center median and collided with a tree. Prior to the collision, witnesses observed the vehicle driving erratically and swerving between lanes. The driver, a 60-year-old resident of Long Beach had been removed by other citizens who rendered aid, but he later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. There were no other vehicles involved.
