El Dorado Nature Center

MICHELLE GERDES posted this photo of a Snowy Egret taken at the El Dorado Nature Center and posted it online at the Facebook group Photos of Long Beach. With its bright white plumage, black legs with yellow feet (often called “golden slippers”), slim, black bill and small-to-medium egret size, they are often seen foraging in shallow water. These features distinguish it from the Great Egret, which is larger and has a yellow bill and black feet. Snowy Egrets are very common in wetlands, lagoons and coastal areas – especially around Southern California.
