With Just a Taste: Coffee World Opens Doors

THE INTERIOR of the CoffeeDrunk cafe in Bixby Knolls serves high-quality, well-crafted beverages to its customers. It’s standing as one of the three locations in the city of Long Beach.

For the community of Long Beach, CoffeeDrunk is a place for them to unwind, try new coffee recipes and socialize. Having three distinct locations in the city, CoffeeDrunk plays a pivotal role in sharing its unique ambiance and coffee culture with the community.

Founded in Long Beach by Matthew and Breezy Church, CoffeeDrunk has extended to multiple locations. It has gained traction due to its menu, connection to the community and creative atmosphere. CoffeeDrunk began as a small cafe in Long Beach and has expanded to serving in various locations in the city and even in Arizona.

Matthew Church and his wife Breezy decided to start building their first site in 2019, but due to the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19, they finally welcomed their first customers in December 2020, serving two people at a time.

“What we thought was an impediment turned out to be a blessing,” Matthew Church said. “We could only serve two people at a time during those first months. Everything slowed down.”

Despite the many challenges they faced during that time, it allowed the couple to hone their skills in coffee making and improve their business. Due to the success of their beverages for the first few years of operating, they knew their future would lie in building multiple locations.

With a positive outlook on their current and future businesses, both Matthew and Breezy Church knew they would deal with a new set of obstacles but were prepared to learn and grow from them. Long Beach has been their home since 2008 and has played a crucial role in the development of CoffeeDrunk.

“The community is what differentiates a space like ours from the coffee you make at home using any range of retail coffee beans,” Church said. “When I say community, I’m not just talking about customers. The people who work at CoffeeDrunk are also part of the community.”

The one-of-a-kind cafe experience at CoffeeDrunk goes beyond its high-quality drinks, attracting locals and visitors for the experience. All those who work at CoffeeDrunk and are a part of the Long Beach community are essential in providing support for the city’s small businesses.

With CoffeeDrunk being one of the many coffee shops in Long Beach catering to their loyal customers, Church emphasized the significance of venturing out into the city in search of that one sip of coffee that resonates with you.

“It’s not just about how people feel when they walk in,” Church said. “It’s about how they feel after the first sip of a new drink. From shop design and product quality to drink preparation, consistency and customer relationships, our goal is to make someone take that first sip and think, ‘I am glad I came here today.’ “

Church explained he wants individuals to come into his shop and feel glad to have stopped by no matter who they are, or what their day looked like. CoffeeDrunk creates a feeling for the customer allowing for a personal and memorable connection to be made through a sip of coffee.

“I lived in Belmont Shore for years when I first moved to Long Beach. Breezy worked on 2nd Street, that’s how we met. Over coffee. She was the barista, and I loved her Americanos,” Church said.”

As of today, Matthew and Breezy Church are building a new CoffeeDrunk location on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. Matthew Church is looking forward to rejoining the community he once lived in and the street his wife once worked on. Creating a full circle moment to where their coffee endeavors first began.
