A Look Inside LB’s First Women’s Sports Bar
In July 2024, Beachcomber covered a news story about Watch Me! Sports Bar, a new local sports bar that focuses on televising Women’s Sports. Founded by its co-owners Jackie “Jax” Diener and Megan “Emme” Eddy, the sports bar follows a rising trend of Women’s Sports Bars being established across the United States.
Since then, Beachcomber recently had the opportunity to speak again with Diener about how business has been going inside Watch Me!
According to Diener, business for the sports bar has been excellent since its grand opening – with the bar seeing plenty of patrons coming and going to enjoy a few drinks and televised sports.
“Opening for the Olympics brought immediate business and many days of standing room only for certain events,” said Diener. “As the Olympics and Paralympics ended, we adjusted our hours to accommodate the end of summer vacation and back to school. We’ve been jam packed for women’s soccer, women’s basketball, Dodgers and Sundays have been great days for us in general. Overall, we’ve done a lot in our first months to build a sturdy foundation for our expected growth.”
Since the beginning of its operation, Diener states that the sports bar had taught them several things about stepping into a business such as theirs.
“The art of the pivot is alive and well in our place!” said Diener. “We inherited faulty equipment, learned we needed to make big changes and make them fast and have learned that feedback is alive and well.”
Speaking of feedback, Watch Me!’s co-owner stated that public response has been a big help when it comes to improving their establishment. Something they’ve expressed great gratitude for.
“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback on our bar menu, food menu and service. And, like any new business, we’ve gone through some growing pains to find our way,” Diener said. “In doing so, we’ve made changes to our menus to improve our offerings and speed service times.”
Diener continued: “We appreciate the comments that have helped us evolve and we’ll continue to focus on how and where to improve. That said, we’ve grown a lot since those first days and we know this is an ongoing study that we’ll continue to assess and adjust where and when it makes sense to do so.”
In relation to those said adjustments, the Sports Bar has made a few new changes and additions to its menu, including a brand-new set of drink specials, as well as weekend food specials. According to Diener, some of the bar’s more popular food items include their wings, burgers and their newly added flatbread with hummus.
To Watch Me!’s co-owner, the success of the sports bar’s business within these past few months have also made them express their gratitude to the people that walk through their doors. Whether it’s to simply relax for a few and have a drink, or to come together and show support for your favorite teams and athletes, all of the sports bar’s patrons, according to Diener, have helped speak to the purpose of its creation.
“Our grand opening was beyond words! We had people tell us they waited 4 hours in line just to be a part of history,” said Diener. “All of that is so very meaningful to us and speaks to the reason we’re here to begin with. We’re filling a void and have a lot of really exciting things in the works as we continue to provide a space for anyone who loves women’s sports, who is looking for a safe space and who appreciates and supports a women-owned business.”
Watch Me! Sports Bar is located at 6527 E Pacific Coast Hwy. The bar is open to the public daily, with business hours varying depending on the day. While the sports bar focuses predominantly on televising women’s sports, its owners state that all are welcome.
