Player of the Week: Clayton Andrews, Baseball – Junior LHP/CF Clayton Andrews led the Dirtbags to a series win at Cal State Fullerton, hitting a triple in each game of the series, including a go-ahead, two-run triple in the 8th inning on Sunday. He was also the winning pitcher in the series finale, going a career-best 7.2 innings while allowing just one run to the rival Titans. He hit .500 on the week (6-for-12) with three runs, three RBIs & three walks to lead the offense.

The Dirtbags won their second straight weekend series, taking the non-conference set at Fullerton. LBSU has now won its last three road series against the Titans, the first time Long Beach State has done that since winning four straight road series from 1997-2000.

Freshman Naomi Hernandez had five hits in the opening game against the Lions, matching the 11-year-old school record held by Associate Head Coach Nichole Fry.

Tori Morrissey scored two goals, but the Beach was unable to mount a comeback as they fell to the Bruins Saturday on the road. 

Women’s Tennis (7-6, 2-1 Big West)

Won vs. Dartmouth, 4-3

Senior Lena Pacholski won both her doubles and singles competitions to spark the Beach’s win over Dartmouth. Her 6-3, 6-0 singles win over Dartmouth’s Kristina Mathis came in convincing fashion and just three days after Mathis earned a victory over a ranked opponent, No. 25 Luisa Stefani.

Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto impressed last week, going 4-0 in four matches including three wins in the top flight.

Junior John Broadhead finished second in the men’s heptathlon to lead the early action in the multis, and LBSU closed the meet with some strong performances in the field as junior Bria Palmer won the women’s high jump for the third time in as many tries this season.
