Player of the Week: Rachel Nieto, Women’s Volleyball – Senior Rachel Nieto garnered four more wins on Senior Weekend, leading the Beach to a 4-0 record. She has now won 20 matches in both of the last two seasons and is only the second player at LBSU to reach 80 career wins.

--LBSU turned in a pair of gritty five-set efforts last week at No. 6 Hawaii in which the Beach saw junior opposite Kyle Ensing record his 1,000th career-kill becoming just the 22nd player in program history accomplish that feat.

-- The Dirtbags knocked off their fourth different ranked team of the season with a midweek defeat of UCLA, then won their first road series in Big West play, taking two of three in Northridge. Junior closer Chris Rivera earned the save in all three wins last week for LBSU, giving him 11 on the season.

-- Freshman Naomi Hernandez hit .600 with a pair of doubles, four RBI and three walks over the weekend, reaching base at a .692 rate.

Track and Field

at Triton Invitational

-- Long Beach State’s throwers and pole vaulters spent the weekend in competition at the Triton Invitational down in San Diego. Freshman Ryan Coy set two PRs in the hammer and the discus.

Men’s Golf

at Wyoming Cowboy Classic

-- Junior Joe Fryer shot 68 in the final round to finish in a tie for third place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. Long Beach State finished tied for fourth among the 15 teams competing at Whirlwind Golf Course in Chandler, Ariz.

Women’s Golf

at Black and Blue Rivalry Match

-- Long Beach State got a look at the Big West Championship Course on Monday, winning the Black and Blue Rivalry Match against UC Irvine for the fifth straight year at Strawberry Farms Golf Course.
