1st Power Woman

I really enjoyed your [Long Beach’s First Power Woman] piece for several reasons, not the least of which it reminded me of my great grandparents: Jake and Phoebe Davies. He was the first marshal of Long Beach (and the town drunk). Ol’ Jake was apparently pretty ill tempered-even when he was sober. Phoebe was well-loved, undoubtedly long suffering, and helped establish St. Luke’s as a mission in Long Beach. I’m sure the Davies must have known Iva Tutt, although they probably did not socialize outside of church. Thanks for the fun read!
