4 Killed in Accident at LGB Runway
Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred in the area of East Spring Street and Lakewood Boulevard on Feb. 21, which resulted in the death of two males and two females of unknown ages.
At approximately 1:18 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a concrete underpass tunnel. Personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department were on scene. They extinguished the vehicle fire and attempted to rendered aid to the female occupant outside of the vehicle. The female succumbed to her injuries at the scene. They also located three deceased occupants inside the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed the 2008 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Lakewood Boulevard from Spring Street when the vehicle hit the center median curb. The vehicle lost control and hit the underpass center support wall and engulfed in flames.
At this time, speed and impairment are being investigated as a possible factors in the collision.
The identities of the decedents are being withheld pending identification and notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
