The Long Beach Playhouse kicks off its new season with the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike – one of the most lauded and beloved Broadway plays of recent years – now through May 27. It’s a story that starts with sibling rivalry and ends with reconciliation and redemption. In between are flirtations with voodoo, Disney and Chekov. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The box office is open Wednesday-Saturday 3-8 p.m. and Sundays 1-2 p.m. on scheduled matinees. The Queen Mary welcomes back Ships & Giggles Comedy Night to The Observation Bar & Art Deco Lounge May 8 at 8 p.m. aboard the ship for another Monday night filled with laughs and drinks with some of the funniest comedians Southern California has to offer. Hosted by internationally known comedian, Rocco Stowe, this comedy showcase features top Los Angeles comedians. Admission is $15 per person and $5 of the admission ticket value can be used at the Observation Bar and Queen Mary restaurants during the comedy showcase. Parking is $8 with validation. On Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 8 p.m., the Queen Mary will be rocked by beats and joyful dancing of attendees. Overboard LBC will cater to a “music first” crowd, along with the requisite gorgeous gogo dancers, enticing beverages and entrancing lights and sounds. The evening will feature Markie Magdaleno and On The Rocks Radio host Alexander Rodriguez as your emcees, but at the stroke of midnight he will hand it over for a must see underwear fashion show hosted by fashion designer Andrew Christian. The Long Beach Chorale & Chamber Orchestra concludes the 2016-2017 concert season with a bountiful program of music from the stage, spanning over 300 years. The concert, titled “Pirates and Pilgrims and Sailors – Oh My!” takes place on Sunday, June 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Aquarium of the Pacific. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for Aquarium of the Pacific member adults, $15 for Aquarium of the Pacific member students/children, and $18 for non-members students with ID. On May 5, 6 and 7, The Children’s Theatre presents The Secret Garden: The Musical at the Ernest Borgnine Theatre, 855 Elm Ave. Based on the 1911 novel, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this musical, with book and lyrics by Marsha Norman, and music by Lucy Simon is a classic many may remember reading in grade school.
