Baby Gray Whale Spotted Swimming in Alamitos Bay

The whale drew a crowd of hundreds of onlookers on Monday as the marine mammal swam underneath the 2nd Street bridge off of Bay Shore Avenue along a beach spot in Belmont Shore known as Horny Corner where lifeguards monitored the situation and attempted to secure safety.

According to a statement from Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, the city's Marine Safety teams are coordinating with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), California State Fish & Wildlife and the Marine Mammal Rescue Center to assist the juvenile gray whale for it to go back into open waters on its own where it can access food and family.
