Baseball Team Coasts to Victory

The Long Beach Coast made their first home game in franchise history memorable by coasting through the RedPocket Mobiles, winning 13-4 at a sold-out Bohl Diamond at Blair Field on June 2.

The Coast extended their winning streak to seven games and improving to 10-3 in the Pioneer League.

More than 3,000 fans filled the revamped ballpark, transitioning from the traditional championship black and Go Beach gold to a coastal teal branding that reflects the franchise’s new identity.

Mayor Rex Richardson threw out the ceremonial first pitch as fans in LBC teal and black-and-white Regulators gear turned the stadium into an early summer party.

“It was a great environment. I don’t expect it to be a packed house every night, but it was a lively atmosphere,” Coast manager Troy Percival said. “My boys show up every day, and whether it’s empty or packed they’re going to play the same game. They have a lot of heart and they don’t quit.”

The Mobiles scored first with a run in the second inning, but Long Beach’s offense responded immediately.

Facing a 3-2 count in the bottom of the inning, catcher Thomas McCaffrey hit the first home run in Coast home history to right field, starting a five-run momentum swing that ultimately cemented the first win at their new home for the Coast.

Hit batters and walks loaded the bases before outfielder Eddy Pelc lined an RBI single and shortstop Anthony Mata followed with a two-run double into the gap.

Cooper Vest added a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 lead.

Second baseman Jacob Jablonski went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the third inning and an RBI triple in the sixth.

“You could feel it in your bones,” Jablonski said of the energy and atmosphere surfing through the crowd. “It was juiced, and any little thing you did brought a roar from the crowd. We’re living the dream, especially in this environment and on this field. You can’t ask for anything better.”

Pelc went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, McCaffrey added two hits, three runs and an RBI, and center fielder Emilio Corona hit a two-run triple in the eighth as the Coast totaled 11 hits and several highlight-reel plays on defense.

Left-hander Brett Wozniak earned the win, allowing four runs in five innings before relievers Julien Hernandez and Cole Cressend combined for four scoreless innings.

“I put this team together knowing this was the type of team it would be, and they are living up to expectations,” Percival said. “They are talented, they play together and they grind every play and every at-bat.

The final matchup against the Redpocket Mobiles was on June 7 with the Coast sweeping the six-game series. Currently they are playing the Modesto Roadsters at Blair Field.

The Mobiles don’t represent any city. They are a unique traveling team in the independent Pioneer League that plays all of its games on the road and has no home ballpark or hometown. The team was created for the 2026 season after the league lost a franchise and needed an even number of teams. Rather than assigning the club to a city, the league partnered with RedPocket Mobile and named the team after the sponsor.
