Beachcombing

Jay Beeler

The pandemic put a hold on several of our home projects in 2020. This year we played catch up.

Ahead of the swimming season, our 1962 Anthony pool got a new coat of plaster, new tile work and some plumbing installed by Paradise Pools in Torrance. They did a great job, on time and on budget. If you need this service, I strongly recommend them.

A couple of weeks ago Lynn’s Cement Work of Anaheim demolished and replaced our driveway, which was falling apart from large tree roots. Lynn Wiederholt is a real professional at this and is highly recommended as well. Long-time Beachcomber advertiser The Yard Doctor of Long Beach did a stellar job grinding down the tree roots and deserves your business if this service is needed.

Then J&D Plumbing of Long Beach replaced a section of water pipe in our attic and now the hot water flows much better to the dishwasher and kitchen sink. J&D is a member of the Executives Association of Long Beach – founded in 1922 (I am a past president) – and is a great source of services for your home or business. We’ll be looking within this organization’s membership when it’s time to replace our roof.

EALB is currently looking for an electrician and painter to join its ranks; the prior members in those categories retired after doing exceptionally well with referrals from fellow members. Go to www.longbeachexecs.com for more details or call me at (562) 597-8000 and I’ll treat you at an upcoming Monday luncheon meeting.

We’ve been running an online poll concerning the best and worst of Long Beach elected officials. When asked who is doing the best job of representing constituents, Suzie Price received 37% of the votes and “none of the above” received 39% of the votes.

The current poll asking who is doing the worst job led with Mayor Garcia at 56% and 5th District’s Stacy Mungo at 29%. There’s still time to add your opinion at www.beachcomber.news; vote at the bottom of the first page.
