Best of Long Beach

Jake Jeffrey

I look forward to submitting my opinion and seeing the results of your “Best of Long Beach” poll each year. I am disgusted that the majority of readers vote for these large chains as the best places in Long Beach. Sure, In-N-Out has a good burger and Starbucks has decent coffee, but the best of Long Beach? When people forget about the mom and pop shops, they slowly disappear.

What makes Long Beach better than surrounding towns is that we still have a wide variety of independent businesses to support and enjoy. If you really think Subway is the best sandwich around, move to Cerritos or Rossmoor where every business and building looks the same and have uniform food for uniform taste buds. I know you have encouraged the readers to vote local in the past, but these last results were just ridiculous.

Keep up the great paper.
