Chamber Executive Passes Away

Louise Carlson, a former vice president with the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, passed away on Nov. 23. She was 96 years-old.

She worked at the chamber for 30 years, rising to the position of  vice president, staffing the Women’s Business Council. She attended Woodbury Business College, leading to a career  in business.

Mrs. Carlson was also a very active and longstanding member of Soroptimist of Long Beach for 43 years, having held several positions in the volunteer organization. She resigned earlier this year.

Louise was born on September 30, 1923 in San Jose and grew up on a farm. Her family moved to Los Angeles when she was 10 years-old. Louise and her sister Franceen went to Hollywood Professional School where she learned to dance and play musical instruments. They performed in a small girls’ band that marched in the Hollywood Christmas Parade and performed in USO productions.

She was predeceased by her husband, William. Married for 47 years, they were residents of Huntington Beach.  Her sister was Franceen Davis. Peggy Baca, her niece, predeceased Louise. Louise is survived by her niece, Theresa Baca of Los Angeles.
