Coastal Beaches West of Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier Now Open

Nelson Kerr, LB Health Dept.

Long Beach Health Officials have lifted the closure of open coastal beaches west of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. Lab results indicated bacterial levels in this area were within state standards for two consecutive days.

Open coastal beaches east of the pier and swimming areas in Alamitos Bay will remain closed until lab results confirm the water is safe for swimming. The beach was initially closed following multiple reports of sewage spills from the Los Angeles County Sanitation District related to the recent heavy rains. The Health Department will resume testing on Monday morning.

For the latest status on Long Beach recreational beach water quality, call the Water Hotline at (562) 570-4199 or visit www.longbeach.gov/health/eh/water.
