The California Writers Club of Long Beach presents “Anatomy of a Premise Line” with Jeff Lyons, a published author, screenwriter, editor and story development consultant with more than 25 years experience in the film, television, and publishing industries.

Brinkley on TV Show

Noted presidential historian and award-winning author Douglas Brinkley will be the guest on the next edition of Straight Talk. He joins host Art Levine to discuss how historians rate our past leaders, including evaluations of American presidents such as Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt, Clinton, Eisenhower, Nixon, Bush senior and junior and President Obama. He also reflects on his recent biography of CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite and the unique role Cronkite played on the American public scene.

This show will air in Long Beach/Signal Hill on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on LBTV Channel 3 and FiOS 21 and in Long Beach and 70 surrounding cities at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Charter Channel 188. Straight Talk is also viewable on demand at www.StraightTalkTV.com.

Special Event Show

Hearing Aid Technology

David DeKriek, Au.D., will be guest speaker at The Long Beach/Lakewood Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) on Thursday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Weingart Center, 5220 Oliva Avenue, Lakewood.

Dr. DeKriek will be talking about current hearing aid technology including Bluetooth and Made-For-iPhone wireless capability. The members will learn how Made-For-iPhone is different from traditional Bluetooth. The members will also learn the benefits and limitations of this wireless capability. Lastly he will answer questions from the audience regarding hearing loss or hearing aids. Dr. DeKriek is also the chapter’s professional advisor.

Book Signing

Author Ben Ehrenreich will sign and discuss his new book, “The Way to the Spring: Life and Death in Palestine” on Friday, Jan. 13, 7 p.m., at the Christ Lutheran Church, 6500 Stearns St.

Ehrenreich, who studied religion at Brown University, won a 2012 PEN Center USA award for his journalism. In 2011, he won an Ellie from the American Society of Magazine Editors for feature writing. He has also written two novels, “Ether” and “The Suitors.”

Pollution Solutions

Algalita Marine Research and Education is hosting their 6th annual Plastic Ocean Pollution Solutions (POPS) International Youth Summit at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point on Feb. 10-12. The Summit is a comprehensive 3-day educational program that inspires, engages, and supports youth leaders to launch and lead action-oriented solutions to reduce plastic waste globally. Attending this year are 27 teams, made up of 100 students from around the globe, from local youth to students from Hawaii, Montana, the Bahamas, and Lebanon.
