3700 block of South Street. Walmart. At 8:45 a.m. when employees at a store contacted them. The store had received “a suspicious letter regarding an explosive device that had been placed in the store,” South Street location closed down as cops commenced a search.

7200 block of Carson Street. 11:30 a.m. On account of a threatening letter, police closed down Walmart and all egress via driveways, parking lots, everything ‘cept nearby bike paths, and them too, most likely to search for stuff thought to be part of the threat. Someone don’t like Walmart. Potential shoppers did the only thing they could do in this circumstance, they went to Sam’s Club to find out what happened. Sam or one of his employees shared that a letter was received, threatening to detonate an explosive at any police who might enter.

Hill Street. and Pine Avenue. At 8:04 p.m., officers were dispatched to where a male adult was shot. He was transported to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening wounds. Police are investigating what took place as possibly gang related.

450 Shoreline Dr. At 9:30 a.m., a dog belonging to a disabled man fell into the water, prompting him, the man, not the dog, to call in authorities for a rescue. At about 9:50 a.m., the problem was solved.

Naples. According to a Facebook posting by Nancy Williams Foster, wife of recent mayor Bob Foster, at 11:30 a.m., a young adult male in dark clothing on a bicycle pitched a rock through their front window, breaking it, but causing no injuries to the residents or their pet cat. Politics not suspected.

Seventh Street and Locust Avenue. From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday morning, police check pointed 1,407 vehicles, screened 496 vehicles; arrested a total of two DUI-alcohol suspects; cited a dozen drivers for operating a vehicle while suspended/revoked; cited 11 drivers for operating a vehicle while unlicensed and cited three for unsafe driving.

Lakewood Avenue. and Spring Street. Four motorcycle drivers were pulled over by the cops at 12:15 p.m.

5200 block of Lanai Street. At 4:30 p.m., a young white female was running south on Charlemagne Avenue., yelling that someone was chasing her. She then got in a motor vehicle and drove away. More detailed chaser information is yet to be established.

400 block of E. 10th Street. Traci Mattox checked herself into the hospital for treatment of ulcers. When boyfriend, Lorenzo Moss, 30, visited, she used that as an opportunity to break off their relationship. Spurned, Moss allegedly returned at 2:45 a.m. and, according to Mattox, began stabbing her around the neck, ears and head. She said she yelled out that she was being stabbed, but no one came to help. Finally Moss grew tired of stabbing her and left the room. She went out to the hall and again called for help, which finally arrived, but by then, Moss had left.  She was re-hospitalized in stable condition and Moss was arrested near the hospital and is being held in lieu of one million dollar bail. Asked how Moss was allowed to visit her in the very early morning, Mattox answered, “I don’t know, I don’t work here.”

Granada Beach. At 11:45 a.m., a female transient was in a restroom when an argument broke out with a male transient. Also broken out during the dispute was a switchblade.

Bellflower Blvd. and Stearns St. At 2:40 p.m., a male adult was seen chasing a skateboard powered teen, the why of which is hardly evident.

Bellflower Boulevard. and Beach Street. At 8:30 a.m., five adults engaged in fisticuffs, while one female laid in the bushes. Welcome to CSULB, where learning can be confused with blood sport.

LA River at the 91 Freeway. As the result of a phone call, police located a Tacoma - a truck, not a city - stuck in the riverbed near some local horse stables at 1 p.m. A license confirmed suspicions of a dumped stolen vehicle.

1300 block of Eighth Street. At 1:15 p.m., a woman with a can of spray paint walked by cars, spraying license plates a not-so-fashionable black. Definitely not a pilot DMV program.

Marine Stadium. Power boat left the stadium at a high rate of speed, honking at kayakers on its way out at 11:15 a.m.

Bellflower Boulevard. and Carson Street. Sales of clothing hanging on two long racks occurred at 6:25 p.m. No apparent discounts for soccer players.

Beach Bluffs at Orizaba Avenue. At 5:40 p.m., a young male dressed in all tan was beating another young male with a skateboard, certainly not in line with its intended use, which in this case, amounted to his get out of town free vehicle.
