Monday, September 2
1500 block of Pine Ave. At 4:44 a.m., police arrested an armed person, recovering a firearm.
Fourth Pl. south of Ocean Blvd. Here’s the 5:11 a.m. plan: break into a residence, start a fight with the resident, stab the resident in the upper body, then get into a confrontation with police who will use 40mm less-lethal rounds to modify offensive behavior. The plan worked so well: the alleged intruder/fighter/stabber, Anthony Bartolo Olivas, 46, earned a hospital visit, a booking for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon; bail: $50,000. The resident was also hospitalized.
Tuesday, September 3
Carson St. and Cherry Ave. A 10 p.m. meetup of a parking lot full of modified motor vehicles was interrupted by police who encouraged the motorists to hit the several roads in the vicinity. By midnight, all was calm, all was dark.
Wednesday, September 4.
23rd St. and Santa Fe Ave. At 7:07 p.m., a woman in a crosswalk was hit by a driver turning left from West 23rd Street onto Santa Fe Avenue. When help arrived, she was barely breathing and not moving. She died at the hospital on Saturday, Sept. 7. The driver cooperated with the investigation.
Los Angeles River near Wardlow Rd. At 11:24 p.m., a no-hit shooting was reported. Upon arrival, officers contacted the calling party, who had reported his own actions as it was later determined he was both the informant and the suspected shooter, two roles, victim and assailant, in one, arresting him and recovering a loaded un-serialized firearm.
Friday, September 6
1000 block of East 11th St. At 8:38 p.m., in a double play, police and detection K9 recovered a firearm from a pair o’prohibited possessors as well as starring roles in warrants.
Saturday, September 7
1900 Block of Myrtle Ave. At 3:43 a.m., officers responded to a hospital about a stabbing victim. Told a man was involved in a physical altercation with another man, which escalated when the latter man stabbed the victim, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury to the lower body. Officers were unable to locate a Myrtle Avenue crime scene.
45th St. and Long Beach Blvd. At 9:40 p.m., as a southbound 2021 Honda CR-V turned eastbound on 45th Street, a northbound 2003 Yamaha motorcycle struck the car’s right side, throwing the motorcyclist into the roadway. He died from his injuries at a hospital. “Speed is being investigated as a factor on the behalf of the motorcyclist,” police said. The CR-V cooperated with the investigation and was also taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
First St. Blue Line Station. An unconscious man on the floor of a Metro train at 7 p.m. was taken to the hospital. Apparently no one knows who he is or how he got injured.
Sunday September 8
100 Block of Linden Ave. At 1:32 a.m., two groups of humans argued when a security guard noticed one of them was armed. In an attempt to disarm him, the firearm discharged. Everyone fled. Officers recovered the firearm. When a man with an upper body gunshot wound showed up at a hospital, he was arrested over the shooting.
Wednesday, September 11
500 block of 53rd St. At 8:38 p.m., after a two-group argument, an arguer fired a shot, then all the arguers moved on.
14th St. and Long Beach Blvd. After hours, at 10 p.m., officers observed multiple subjects in the park, recovered a firearm and arrested a prohibited possessor.
Thursday, September 12
300 block of Elm Ave. At 2:22 a.m., a gunshot rang out, leaving the all-important evidence of a shooting, but somehow in early morning darkness, the suspect fled the scene, gun most likely in-hand.
Friday, September 13
Orange Ave. and 70th Way. At 8:39 p.m., a Long Beach traffic stop ended up near Orange Avenue and Alondra Boulevard in Paramount where the pursued vehicle collided into another vehicle causing minor injuries and a trip to a hospital. The pursued driver, Dayton Thomask Nihipali, 25, of Long Beach was also injured. Booked for driving under the influence, reckless evading of a police officer and multiple gun and ammo charges.
Saturday, September 14
900 block of Maine Ave. At 10:19 p.m., in a traffic stop, police found a loaded firearm and arrested the suspect.
Sunday September 15
1800 block of Arlington St. At 12:44 a.m., as police looked for a person with a gun, then attempted to contact the male adult suspect as described by the calling party, instead he attempted to flee from officers on foot. After a brief, yet less-than-well-thought-out foot pursuit, he surrendered, was arrested and booked as a prohibited possessor.
3500 block of Santa Fe Ave. At 2:54 a.m., responding to a possible burglary in progress call at a gated community, police found a woman victim lying in a roadway suffering from multiple stab wounds. Identified as Alejandra Acosta Butron, 30. of Long Beach, she was determined deceased at the scene. Near the scene, a man later determined in a dating relationship, Leonard Lee Rowles Jr., a 24-year-old resident of Long Beach, was arrested on one count of murder. Bail: $2,000,000.
