Spring St. and Studebaker Rd. At 10:52 p.m., an eastbound 2024 BMW 440i traveling on Spring Street at a high rate of speed, lost control and collided with a utility pole. The female adult driver, Alexis Adams, 22, was extricated from the vehicle and determined deceased at the scene.

Thursday, October 17

3300 block of Long Beach Blvd. At 12:35 a.m., a man found underneath the 405 Freeway underpass with multiple stab wounds later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Friday, October 18

3846 California Ave. A report from students about a possible intruder with a gun at Hughes Middle School caused a lockdown, which involved Longfellow Elementary School at 3800 Olive Avenue and ended after a sweep found no cause for concern, according to a school official. “Officers conducted an investigation and have determined a person with a gun was not seen near or on campus and there is no active threat to the school,” said police. Some parents showed up to find out more about the threat.

Saturday, October 19

400 block of Burnett St. At 2:37 a.m., an armed human being fired off shots and left evidence at the scene, then departed the scene. No injuries were reported.

Broadway and Obispo. At 10 a.m., residents concerned about a sewage leak or some sort of sewage eruption, found out it was regularly-scheduled gas seepage from a refinery in the Wilmington area, finding it a strange coincidence that these leaks often happen on days when agencies in charge of controlling the stuff are closed for the weekend.

700 block of Cherry Ave. At 10:21 p.m., a person with a gun did the shooting thing, again leaving evidence of a shooting, stuck around not to offer reasons for troubling behavior. No injuries reported.

Sunday, October 20

Anaheim St. and Chestnut Ave. At 11:48 p.m., a walking man approached and stabbed by another man with non-life-threatening wounds to the upper body. Ivan Maciel Alvardo, 28, arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and violating a restraining order. Bail: $30,000.

2200 block of Chestnut Ave. At 8:25 p.m., more shooting by a shooter, weapon and the all-important motive made this one of several head-scratching mysteries indeed.

1900 block of Santa Fe Ave. At 8:28 p.m., still another shooting. While at a business location, a man fired and missed with a gun in the direction of others. Cesar Dominguez Santos, 27, of Long Beach booked for attempted murder, carrying a loaded firearm in public, a felon in possession of a firearm, which was recovered. Bail: $1 million.

Tuesday, October 22

Market St. and Locust Ave. At 12:21 a.m., officers overheard gunfire, despite evidence of a shooting, not a shooter, gun nor a motive could be identified.

800 block of Alamitos Ave. At 7:11 p.m., when police were summoned to a gunshot victim, then determined Kendell Williams, a homeless 36-year-old deceased at the scene.

Wednesday, October 23

Fourth St. and Pine Ave. At 10:30 a.m. man carrying “a visible knife on his person” drew the attention of authorities in an almost hour-long standoff shutting down a busy stretch of downtown. He relocated to a bench on the corner of Fourth Street and The Promenade outside a T-Mobile store, as nearby businesses locked the doors to staunch all-important customer jeopardy. Officers attempted to negotiate with the knife carrier, going so far as offering a bottle of water and a complimentary bag of Lay’s potato chips. After 45 minutes of non-cooperation with the surrender plan, police shot him with a taser and a foam round for good measure, taking him into custody and to a hospital where he went for medical clearance before being booked.

South St. and Downey Ave. A 4:15 p.m. automobile accident motivated the allegation that as one side is Long Beach police the other side is sheriff, “No one monitors traffic. Cars are always racing east to west or north to south.”

2700 Block of Bellflower Blvd. At 10:09 p.m., a man walking the boulevard encountered a man armed with a firearm who attempted to rob him. A struggle for the firearm combined with a firearm discharge, the victim was shot in the upper body. The victim self-transported to a local hospital, where police took up the case.

Friday, October 25

2800 block of Snowden Ave. At 2:44 a.m., a school safety officer discharged a service weapon at a possible Millikan High School burglar who had jumped out of a window. SWAT found no suspect, ending the search at 6:55 a.m. Increased police presence was deemed the solution.

900 block of Park Cir. At 8:28 p.m., while investigating a traffic collision, police recovered a firearm, arresting a prohibited possessor.

Saturday, October 26

2100 block of E. Ocean Blvd. At 6:43 p.m., officers located an occupied vehicle from a previous incident, firearm found, prohibited possessor passenger arrested.

South St. And Paramount Blvd. At 9 p.m., a man standing near the corner was shot in the lower body by a shooter unknown. Four hours later, the victim self-transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
