6700 block of Cherry Ave. At the rear of the Target store, at 8:12 p.m., a deceased male in an encampment with 91 Freeway adjacency. Possible overdose per his friends, the CHP investigates all freeway adjacency cases.
Wednesday, November 13
2200 block of Spaulding St. At 7:33 a.m., a man was shot in the upper body and died inside a parked vehicle.
1224 East 64th St. A 4:30 p.m. fire at Grant Elementary School with smoke from a bungalow possibly caused by a faulty AC unit meant evacuating all youth at the school to the playground. By 4:39 p.m., the fire was no more.
710 Freeway at Del Amo Blvd. A 4:43 p.m. encampment fire disrupted late rush-hour already slow progress of commuting vehicles.
Friday, November 15
Spring St. at Los Coyotes Diag. At 3:45 p.m., an older pickup truck sped through the intersection, striking a black SUV, pin-balling into three additional vehicles before coming to rest as a self-driving vehicle as the driver’s head struck the windshield, rendered unconscious on the passenger seat. As he came to, the owner of the final car he hit, waiting to make a right turn noted the injured pick-up driver would have been much better off wearing a seat belt.
Saturday, November 16
Anaheim St. and Pacific Ave. At 9:33 p.m., a man stopped at a traffic light, then had a verbal dispute with a male adult passenger of a nearby vehicle. Then the victim’s vehicle was struck by gunfire and the car with a shoot-em-up passenger drove off. No injuries were reported.
1100 block of Via Wanda. At 11:33 p.m., when two men fought, one responded with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. A hospital visit followed and an arrest for the stabber.
9th St. and Pine Ave. At 11:03 p.m., during a person with a gun call, the suspected gun person jumped from a second-story walkway to the ground floor and was pursued into an arrested status with the firearm recovered.
Monday, November 18
1900 block of East 14th Street At 6:14 p.m., police saw an occupied stolen vehicle on the move. Amped up to a pursuit, albeit a short one at 14th Street and Pine Avenue, a foot chase with both fleet footers located with the inevitable arrest; one of them to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained during a take down.
Tuesday, November 19
4100 block of Orange Ave. At 6:42 a.m., more two-men-in-combat, one responded with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the other’s upper body. A hospital visit followed; no arrest for the absentee stabber.
52nd St. and Atlantic Ave. At 3:15 p.m., police confronted a man with a gun sitting on the steps of the Iglesia de Cristo Miel and attempted to de-escalate with a hostage negotiator and a Mental Evaluation Team, but the suspect remained uncooperative. SWAT was deployed.
After a two-and-a-half hour stand-off, the shooting began, the suspect and officers discharging firearms, the latter with as many as ten shots. An officer sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. The suspect, Brandon Boyd, a 38-year-old single father of four died at the scene; the wounded officer transported to a hospital in stable condition, later released. A firearm was recovered on the scene.
Wednesday, November 20
Anaheim St. and Orange Ave. At 5:44 a.m., an unknown shooter did that very thing for reasons known only to the firearm wielder.
Centralia St. and Bellflower Blvd. At 6:33 p.m., a northbound 2014 Jeep Patriot, driven by a 65-year-old Lakewood resident collided with pedestrian Lynnette Aguilar, 52, of Long Beach crossing the Bellflower Boulevard outside of a cross-walk. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Aguilar died at the scene.
Thursday, November 21
600 block of Elm Ave. At 10:23 p.m., two male groups altercated, a gunshot, a non-life-threatening wound to an upper body, a hospital visit, finalized by the arrest of Angel Jiovanni Pheang-Chavez, 19, of Long Beach for attempted murder. Bail: $1,000,000.
Friday, November 22
900 block of Gaviota Ave. At 11:40 a.m., a man entered a residence and shot Justice Lopez, 19, the upper body. She died in the hospital. Police consider this a non-random attack.
Palo Verde Ave. north of Spring St. At 4 p.m., a Millikan student was struck by a truck in the McDonald’s drive-thru. A witness noted “the girl ran through some bushes at the drive-thru and a truck ran her over. She was stuck under the truck.” She was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Possible driver DUI was alleged.
Saturday, November 23
2100 block of Daisy Ave. At 7:48 p.m., an armed carjacking. After a brief pursuit, officers took a suspect into custody; others fled. A firearm was recovered.
600 block of Obispo Ave. At 7:58 p.m., a burglary, a suspect near the area, a fire-arm recovered, an arrest. That is all.
Sunday, November 24
2600 block of East Ocean Blvd. At 1:54 a.m., near a homeless encampment at Junipero Beach, a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body was hospitalized. Another, Frank Suggs, 51, with gunshot wounds to the upper body, died at the scene.
