68th Way and Belhurst Ave. At 6:52 p.m., a homemade go-cart collided with an unoccupied parked Chevrolet Silverado killing the 51-year-old possibly homeless driver, Rafael Joseph Phillips Jr., who may have suffered a medical emergency.
Wardlow Rd. near Lime Ave. At 11 p.m., according to witnesses, a westbound vehicle going about 100 mph hit the Atlantic Avenue dip, launching it airborne, hitting and toppling a power pole, the car then catching fire. If the occupants were injured is a major unknown. Police closed the traveling routes, called in tow trucks with hopes that Edison Company would soon be there.
Wednesday, December 11
1600 block of E Second St. At a 5:13 p.m. probation compliance check on a known prohibited possessor parolee, the recovery of an un-serialized assault rifle, an arrest, transport to jail, an all-important booking.
Thursday, December 12
200 block of E 25th St. At a 7:03 a.m. hit shooting, both the shooter and the recipient of the shooting were gonzo, one of them in the hospital, where despite the non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, investigators faced an uncooperative victim.
Fourth St. and Lime Ave. At an 8:20 p.m. traffic stop, officers recovered a loaded firearm from a prohibited possessor driver who had open warrants for his arrest, meaning he matched the all-important trio of criteria for jail and booking.
Friday, December 13
East Greenleaf Blvd and Long Beach Blvd. As a 2009 Chevy HHR was making a left turn from East Greenleaf Boulevard to southbound Long Beach Boulevard, it hit a pedestrian, Elvira Cuellar, a 75-year-old resident of Compton, who had fallen in the marked crosswalk. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Saturday, December 14
2700 Block of Orange Ave. At 12:56 a.m., a negligent discharge of a weapon combined with the shooter leaving the scene meant a whodunit.
3900 block of Ocean Blvd. At 6:40 p.m., a person approached a man, stabbed him with non-life-threatening wounds to the upper body, then left the scene.
1500 block of East Fifth St. At 8:24 p.m., a mystery shooting by an unknown person meant still another whodunit.
Sunday, December 15
10th St. and Martin Luther King Jr Ave. At a 3:24 a.m. traffic stop, a weapon was taken away from a prohibited possessor, who became an arrestee.
Santa Fe Ave. and Summit St. At a 7:43 p.m. traffic stop, a weapon was found and a suspect was arrested.
1200 block of East Anaheim St. After a 9:25 p.m. man vs. man argument, a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body was transported to a hospital. Man two departed the scene.
710 Freeway and Willow St. At 10:38 p.m., a shooting resulted in non-life-threatening wounds to the lower body of a man, who was transported to a hospital, while the shooter fled prior to police arrival.
Monday, December 16
1100 block of East Fourth St. At 5:30 p.m., a 77-year-old Long Beach woman in a 2000 Toyota Corolla died after colliding at a slow speed with an unoccupied parked vehicle, possibly from a medical emergency.
19th St. and Harbor Ave. At 6:13 p.m., a man was in his vehicle when a suspect exited a vehicle behind him. Exiting his own vehicle, the victim was shot with non-life-threatening wounds to the upper and lower body.
1100 block of Hellman St. At 9:34 p.m., a man fired a gun into the air and fled. Anthony Marcellous Foster, 31 of Gardena was booked for negligent discharge of a firearm and brandishing a firearm. Bail: $35,000.
1200 block of East Fourth St. At 10:24 p.m., a gunshot, a crime scene and nobody there
Wednesday, December 18
1000 block of Alamitos Ave. 6:44 p.m., a 17-year-old male was shot with a non-life-threatening wound to the lower body by a man on foot who approached the teen’s vehicle prior to the deed.
400 block of Zona Court. At a 7:46 p.m., traffic stop, a weapon was taken away from a prohibited possessor, who found out what arrests are all about.
Thursday, December 19
6000 block Linden Ave. At 11:57 p.m., in a case of a trio of shots firedcorresponding with a vehicle speeding away and the subsequent recovery of shell casings added up to a classic case of suspicious circumstances.
Friday, December 20
Carson St. and Bellflower Blvd. The DUI / driver’s license checkpoint was held at 6:00 p.m. at an entirely new location, a commonly used route to Lakewood and Lakewood Village. Though no DUI operators were detected, a pair of drivers were cited for operating an unlicensed vehicle or with a suspended/revoked license.
500 block of W. 9th St. At 7:02 p.m., a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body while walking was hospital-bound.
Saturday, December 21
Long Beach Blvd. and Bort St. At 5:14 p.m., a shots fired call, evidence indicating a shooting had occurred, yet no shooter located, the definition of a mystery.
Sunday, December 22
Martin Luther King Jr Ave. and Tenth St. A 3:11 a.m. traffic stop combined with a firearm recovery from a prohibited possessor meant an arrest.
