Cerritos Ave. and 17th St. At 8:38 p.m., Christmas eve was celebrated by a shooter who left evidence.
Wednesday, December 25
3400 block of Stanbridge Ave. At 11:19 p.m., a pair of men argued, then came the pistol whipping followed by the shots-in-air tactic. A hospital visit for the non-life-threatening pistol whip injury, zero gunshot hits, a search begun for whip guy.
Thursday, December 26
Marwick Ave. and Mezzanine St. According to Jerry Shultz, at 10:55 a.m., a USPS mail truck parked on the northeast corner of Marwick was broken into by punching out the rear door lock, the perps fleeing in a silver Hyundai Veloster. “Our letter carrier came to my door to let me know. He said that all the letter mail on my route was stolen but they did not take the packages. He also said that a citizen attempted to follow the thieves to get a plate number but was not successful.
The letter carrier told me that the police will not respond to US Mail thefts because that is a federal crime and is the responsibility of the Postmaster. I asked if the Postmaster takes any action and he shook his head no.”
Shultz then visited local parks and places where stolen mail is opened and discarded but could find no evidence. He did find empty Amazon packages and notified the recipients of these findings, hoping in addition to notifying Amazon, they should also call the police to establish a record of package thefts.
5500 block of Atlantic Ave. At 1:32 p.m., when police spotted a male with a gun outside a business, they ordered him to drop the weapon. After he refused the order, an officer fired a weapon, hitting no one. The suspect then complied and surrendered. A pellet gun was recovered at the scene.
California Ave. and San Antonio Dr. At 4:45 p.m., a tan eastbound Toyota Avalon on San Antonio Drive ran a red light at California Avenue and struck a woman’s car. “The driver briefly got out his car, then got back in and fled the scene,” police said. The woman declined a trip to a hospital, but later showed up for treatment.
Friday, December 27
200 block of West Broadway. At 7:13 p.m., two men argued, an arguer stabbed in a non-life-threatening way to the upper body. Frank Alvin Sessions, a 66–year-old booked for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a peace officer and an outstanding warrant.
Pacific Ave. near Wardlow Rd. At 7:40 p.m., a LAPD pursuit that approached 135 mph entered Long Beach on the southbound 405, exiting at Pacific Avenue, ending up stalled at Wardlow Road where the male-female chasees took to foot, him hiding behind a trash bin, arrested for evasion, her for suspected robbery in L.A. where it all began.
Saturday, December 28
1000 block of Burnett St. At a warehouse party, at 10:16 p.m. five to seven young males, at least three armed, fired at and hit three females and four males aged between 17 and 19, killing a 17-year-old girl, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. The other wounds were non-life-threatening.
Sunday, December 29
7100 block of Atlantic Pl. At 6:48 a.m., a pre-New Year Day volley of one or more shots occurred with no suspect identified, but a possible motive practice was an upcoming holiday.
Monday, December 30
Pasadena Ave. and Dayman St. A 6:09 p.m. traffic stop, a four firearm recovery from a prohibited possessor, an arrest.
Tuesday, January 1
1400 block of Linden Ave. At 12:31 a.m., an innocent parked car was shot by an unknown celebrant.
1000 block of Cherry Ave. At 12:35 a.m., another innocent parked car was shot by an unknown celebrant. Hmm, two shots in the air calls minutes apart just after midnight? Was there a special occasion or event that called for noise and stupid ways of celebrating?
Thursday, January 2
3500 block of Gale Ave. At a 4:47 p.m. traffic stop, a firearm in the possession of a prohibited possessor meant an arrest of the same possessor.
1100 block of Loma Ave. At 5:05 p.m., a suspicious person was discovered to be in possession of a firearm, a problem for this prohibited possessor, in turn arrested.
Saturday, January 4
5100 block of Ocean Blvd. At 1:57 a.m., shots fired, presumably from a gun of some sort, evidence indicating a shooting had occurred remained on scene, which is more than be said of the guns, nowhere to be found. No reported injuries.
Long Beach Blvd. and Anaheim St. At a 4:29 p.m. traffic stop, a pair of firearms linked to a pair of suspects appeared, a pair of arrests followed.
Atlantic Pl. and 70th St. At 7:40 p.m., a u-turning vehicle collided with another vehicle, into a culvert, hitting a horse stable, no horses or humans injured.
Sunday, January 5
600 block of W. Anaheim St. A 2:49 a.m. shooting of a man with non-life-threatening lower body wounds. A woman standing near the man wasn’t hit by the shooter who approached in a vehicle, subsequently fleeing.
