Sunday, January 5

Santa Fe Ave. and Spring St. During a 10:14 p.m. traffic, two firearms found, one suspect arrested.

Anaheim St. and Walnut Ave. At a 10:17 p.m. traffic stop, a firearm found, arrest ensued.

Monday, January 6

Quincy Ave. and Seventh St. At a 2:50 a.m. traffic stop, a firearm found, arrest eventuated.

1400 block of West Willow St. At 12:20 p.m., two men robbed a woman inside a business, drove away. Police located the get-a-way car and the gotten-away robbers at an apartment on Gardenia Avenue near Anaheim Street, setting up a perimeter to make sure the suspects couldn’t flee before an apartment sweep. Two men arrested for robbery. Two detained women were released.

Tuesday, January 7

16th St. and Cota Ave. At 6:24 a.m., while police investigated illegal dumping involving a motorhome, a man in possession of a loaded firearm was arrested.

Wednesday, January 8

600 block of Cerritos Ave. At 2:40 p.m., a 13-year-old student who brought a handgun to Franklin Middle School was detained by school security and then was arrested. In a message to parents, the Long Beach Unified School District said that someone reported “what appeared to be a handgun” to school administration and campus security. “A firearm was discovered in the juvenile’s possession and subsequently recovered by officers,” police said in a statement. “Officers arrested the male juvenile and transported him to Long Beach City Jail for booking.”

Thursday, January 9

1700 block of Long Beach Blvd. At a 9:19 p.m. traffic stop, police recovered a firearm and arrested a suspect.

Friday, January 10

500 block of 19th St. At 11:48 p.m., when a shooter approached a car, the male driver attempted to drive off, but the shooter got off a bang bang, hitting neither the driver nor the vehicle. Somehow the shooter managed to get away from officers.

Sunday, January 12

2400 Block of Linden Ave. A 1:02 a.m. mystery shooting complete with evidence indicating a shooting had occurred.

2100 block of E Ocean Blvd. At 3:38 p.m., officers located a vehicle possibly connected to an ongoing investigation. During attempted suspect detention and foot pursuit, both subjects were taken into custody.

Monday, January 13

Atlantic Ave. and Esther St. At an 8:40 p.m. traffic stop police found a prohibited possessor’s firearm, meaning an arrest.

700 block of Walnut Ave. During a 9:01 p.m. traffic stop, two men fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, both suspects were detained, one holding a firearm. The firearm guy was thus arrested, no word on the fate of his in-flight companion.

6500 block of Muriel Ave. At 11:45 p.m., a man sitting in his parked vehicle was approached by a gunsel, who shot him with a non-life-threatening wound to the upper body. Said gunslinger then fled on foot.

Tuesday, January 14

3000 block of Gold Star Dr. At 8:48 a.m., after 30-year-old resident Trayen Gaston called 911 to report a “possible suicide,” police officers found Tyrone Crawford, 64, dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Gaston was arrested on suspicion of murder, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of a firearm. Bail: $2,000,000.

Wednesday, January 15

W. Tenth St. and Pacific Ave. At about 1 a.m., a woman walking near an alley was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her, fleeing on foot.

2700 block of Easy Ave. At 5 a.m., with a search warrant in hand, SWAT found a pair of firearms including an un-serialized assault rifle, arrest befell.

500 block of E. Third St. At 8:29 a.m., police arrested a battery suspect in possession of a loaded firearm.

1200 block of Long Beach Blvd. Detectives believe the above-described sexual assault suspect struck a woman in the upper body at 9 a.m.

1400 block of Cherry Ave. At 8:25 p.m., a shooter did the shooter thing, leaving evidence of said shooting, but nary an injury.

Thursday, January 16

1900 block of Walnut Ave. At 9:25 p.m., a group of men stabbed another in his upper and lower body with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Friday, January 17

Long Beach Blvd. and Artesia Blvd. At a 2:05 a.m. traffic stop, police found a loaded firearm from a prohibited possessor, arrest commenced. 

1000 block of E. Seventh St. At a 8:37 p.m. pedestrian stop, police found a loaded firearm from still another prohibited possessor, arrest followed. 

Saturday, January 18

2500 block of Santa Fe Ave. At 12:11 a.m., a pair of men argued, solved by shooting the other in the upper body, to a hospital in critical but stable condition. The shooter fled.

Wilmington. Investigating the two January 15 assaults, at 12:21 p.m., Long Beach detectives arrested 26-year-old Dion Terrell Walton Jr. for sodomy, first-degree robbery, aggravated kidnapping with intent to commit rape, assault with intent to commit a felony. Bail: $1,000,000.

6800 block of Coachella Ave. At 9:15 p.m. three men with gunshot wounds were transported to hospitals, where Tyrant Otee Walker, 55, of Compton died. “The second victim remains in critical but stable condition, and the third victim was treated at a hospital and released,” police stated. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
