Tuesday, March 18

DeForest Ave. and 59th St. At 10:52 p.m., an investigation into a parking violation morphed into a seized firearm, which a man in a vehicle was apparently holding. Firearm possession trumped poor parking, a prohibited possessor pinched.

Wednesday, March 19

Walmart, 7500 block of Carson St. At midday, a small boy showed a twenty-dollar bill to a customer, asking for help picking out the right fish. Turns out the customer was the intended fish, as the object was the distraction for the purpose of pick-pocketing by an adult companion.

Thursday, March 20

Cedar Ave. and Anaheim St. At 12:23 a.m., a prohibited possessor pedestrian proceeded to take a powder, was promptly pinched with a firearm.

Friday, March 21

2000 block of W. 16th St. At 5:16 p.m., a man was stabbed with life-threatening wounds to the upper body.

Sunday, March 23

Second St. and St. Joseph Ave. At 2 p.m. a man got out of his car and threw “an incendiary device,” a possible makeshift Molotov cocktail onto a blue Mazda behind him, which caught fire under the hood.

Fredrick Aaron Merritt, 58, was arrested near the intersection on suspicion of attempted murder, arson and possession of flammable material. Bail: $1 million. No Teslas were damaged in this incident.

Woodruff Ave. and Wardlow Rd. At 7:35 p.m., a northbound 2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 struck a 2006 Toyota Highlander turning left from southbound Woodruff Avenue to eastbound Wardlow Road, killing both the motorcyclist, Austin Patrick Fett, 28, of Lakewood and an elderly female passenger in the Highlander.

1500 block of W. 31st St. At 10:39 p.m. the unknown shooter committed a bang-bang, hitting no person, but attracting police attention.

Tuesday, March 25

Long Beach. At 12:11 a.m., a self-transporting man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body refused to share the location where he was shot.

1100 block of Atlantic Ave. At 5:55 p.m., a teenage male was approached by a group of males, one of whom fired a shot at him causing a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. As the victim had a warrant for his arrest and illegally possessed a hidden firearm, after being medically cleared, he was booked. Officers recovered the firearm.

Wednesday, March 26

East 65th St. and Butler Ave, At 9:05 a.m., four teenagers, one of whom had a possible gun, ran into a home. A SWAT team arrived at 9:30 a.m. to encourage people out of the home by use of calls, flash bangs, tear gas and less-lethal weapons. At 1:20 p.m., three teenage boys and a teenage girl were in custody, the house was searched, two replica firearms found.

14th St. and Pacific Ave. At 10:03 p.m., the very active unknown shooter fired off his bang-bang thing, leaving evidence of his no-hit shooting prowess. No hit injuries reported.

Thursday, March 27

Southbound 405 Fwy. at Atlantic Ave. At 7:30 a.m., seven sedans crashed into an impressive line of wrecked motor vehicles in the express lane, tying up traffic in both directions for several hours. The requisite number of tow trucks were assembled to do their tow thing. Injuries and cause or causes were unknown, but generally, a rear-end crash points to the crasher, of which there were several.

Woodruff Ave. and Wardlow Rd. According to a Nextdoor poster, at the same intersection where two people died in a bad car-motorcycle wreck just four days previously, at 9 a.m., “a kid on a motorcycle ran a red light and proceeded to ride at speed doing a wheelie. Are parents not teaching their kids basic road safety?” Apparently, no.

Friday, March 28

Seventh St. and Termino Ave. A 2:40 p.m. police pursuit of a heavy-duty work truck into Long Beach via the 605 and 22 Freeways. Found by a cell phone with a tracking device. Westbound, the truck sideswiped or rammed 13 vehicles like those waiting for the light at Bellflower Boulevard. With heavy traffic near Recreation Park and Wilson High School, it crashed into an SUV and a van at Termino Avenue where it ended. The driver walked up Mira Mar Avenue, where he was tackled by a team of LAPD officers, injuring one tacking officer. Medical transport ordered for the driver, the officer and the person in the SUV.

Saturday, March 29

100 block of West 49th St. At 12:20 a.m., a man with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the lower body un-cooperated as did a missing crime scene.

2100 block of Ocean Blvd. At 4:54 a.m., shots fired from a light colored sedan occupied twice in the Junipero beach lot with no apparent victim. At 5:19, a.m., police pulled over a three-person vehicle matching the description near the lot, results unknown.

Sunday, March 30

3700 block of Anaheim St. A 4:24 a.m., shooting with a woman self-transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening wound to the upper body.

Atlantic Ave. and Market St. At 7 p.m., a man heard noises, then noticed it was him with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, thus he self-transported to the hospital. No crime scene found.
