Saturday, May 16
5700 block of Cerritos Ave. At 4:22 a.m., shots were fired with evidence consistent with a shooting, but no shooter or injuries incurred.
Paramount Blvd. and 56th Street. At 4:39 p.m., a southbound 2020 Honda Civic hit an eight-year old child who ran into the street. Transported to a hospital, the child, Jeremiah Hicks later succumbed to his injuries. The 27-year-old male driver from Paramount remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. In a KNBC interview, the mother, Monique Boodie said her son, was chasing a loose ball while he and other children were at play and was hit by the Honda. She insisted the intersection in front of Seaport Village needs a stoplight or stop sign, cameras and speed bump on Paramount Boulevard.
Sunday, May 17
Los Angeles River and Artesia Blvd. At 9:46 p.m., a man with non-life-threatening upper body gunshot wounds was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The shooter either floated or fled away.
Monday, May 18
2200 block of Gondar Ave. At 4 a.m., a catalytic converter theft was reported in progress. The thieving perp fled with freshly harvested automotive organs to add to the collection.
800 block of Redondo Ave. At 9:49 p.m. a three-story apartment building caught fire with heavy smoke showing from an upper unit. At 9:55 p.m., a possible trapped resident was rescued at 9:59 p.m., then was treated for smoke inhalation. No fire extension to adjacent units was reported.
Tuesday, May 19
Seventh St. and Orizaba Ave. At 8:36 a.m., a man riding a motorized scooter westbound on the north sidewalk toward Orizaba Avenue lost control, fell off the scooter and sustained injuries. Transported to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
5400 block of Carson St. At 5:10 p.m., a female juvenile entered a business striking a juvenile employee of said business, then taking her leave.
1400 block of Pacific Ave. At 5:45 p.m., construction workers were installing a power conduit along the four-foot trench to run power to the Lydia House shelter, As one worker knelt down, two others stood by when the trench wall began to crumble. They tried to stop the collapse by holding up the trench wall but failed. Two workers were injured; one worker was trapped under the dirt. That worker. Martin Rodriguez, 54, died.
800 block W. Fourth St. A Nextdoor member posted, “At 6:30 p.m., I went for a walk with my dog and I heard a group of girls screaming. One of their friends was snatched up by this male, I ran to where she was and the only way he let go of the girl was because my dog had bit him! I called police and they didn’t show up until 45 minutes later.” The next day, “as I was walking, he popped out of a bush feeling himself. My dog was in attack mode. Thankfully my neighbor was out for a walk, and he saw what was happening. That made the male walk away.” That, and likely, the dog.
Wednesday, May 20
3600 block of Orange Ave. At 3:26 a.m., a North Division sergeant working patrol observed a man tampering with the electrical wiring of a city lighting fixture. The suspect was in possession of approximately 39 pounds of wiring believed to have been stolen from a city light pole as well evidence of vandalism to city lighting infrastructure in both the 3500 and 3600 blocks of Orange Avenue. The alleged power purloiner, Saul Chavez Viveros, 30, of Long Beach was booked for grand theft and felony vandalism.
1000 block of Long Beach Boulevard At 6 p.m., a 4-year-old female fell from the fifth floor. She was treated in critical but stable condition.
Thursday, May 21
Seventh St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. At 4:41 p.m., a man and a woman argued when the woman stabbed the man in a non-life-threatening, hospital-bound way, while the woman left, apparently deciding the debate had been won.
Olive Ave. and Sixth St. At 5:10 p.m., a driver noticed a topless female in her 30s enjoying a stroll. Obsessed with modesty, he looked away and called 911 to report her shocking lack of decorum. Police immediately responded, apparently intent on covering her chest with clothing.
3300 block of Seventh St. At 8:19 p.m., in a second instance of a woman stabbing a man, this time, treated at the scene. The suspect was located and arrested nearby, and a knife was recovered. The victim declined transport to the hospital.
Friday, May 22
Peace St. at Long Beach Blvd. An 8:10 p.m. no-hit, no-injury, no-suspect shooting occurred.
Saturday, May 23
2600 block of Baltic Ave. A 11:20 p.m. shooting, evidence found, shooter not found.
Alamitos Ave and 11th St. At 11:20 p.m., a traffic collision with one vehicle overturned and one occupant trapped, with consequent extrication apace.
Sunday, May 24
3200 block of Caspian Ave. As the result of a possible 12:13 a.m. drive-by shooting of three adults, two women were wounded, conscious and breathing but a male victim in critical condition died at the hospital, turning this shooting into a homicide.
