3000 block of Cortner Ave. In a 2:49 a.m. highly organized avian extraction, two darkly clad avian malefactors approached and opened a cage outside of a residence, taking a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, then fleeing with the bird-in-hand on foot to the north, entering a possible black sedan.

One unknown male was garbed in a blue hoodie, jeans and white shoes, the other in dark clothing and dark shoes. Classified as critically endangered, the parrot readily mimics human speech, thus might be able to fink-out the new owners by repeating what they said during the theft and serving as star witness in any legal action.

5300 block of Atlantic Ave. At 2:10 a.m., a man attempted to steal a car, got into a brief verbal dispute with the owner, who suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body in the process, while the malefactor departed the scene in search of more readily steal-able vehicular transport. Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene.

Drake Park, 903 Fairbanks Ave. At 7:30 a.m., an assumed itinerant male set fire to greenery covering a chain link fence. Nearby neighbors attempted to put out the fire, but were intercepted and hampered by the fire-setter until they told him that police and fire were on their way. At that time, he likely fled for future fence fires.

Los Angeles River between Pacific Coast Hwy. and Anaheim St. A 9:40 a.m. a large homeless encampment fire meant a shutdown of the PCH off-ramp from the northbound 710 Freeway by the CHP until at least 11:45 a.m., nowhere near at transportation crisis

1900 block of Cedar Avenue At 9:48 p.m., shots were fired, but the shooter departed prior to an explanation.

North Long Beach. At 9 p.m., after several turns on city streets, a fugitive driver being pursued by LAPD departed town on the 91 Freeway, leaving the pursuit to the CHP.

Ocean Blvd. and Bay Shore Ave. A 6:50 p.m., gathering of roughly 200 teenagers at Horny Corners caused whatever such a conclave might indicate: a lightweight rumble. At 9:45 p.m., officers began numerous announcements regarding curfew enforcement. Five teens were cited and “transported to their guardians,” police said, who added, “At one point, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, leading to officers detaining several juveniles.”

 Citizens at the scene indicated the throng could have amounted to 500, a report of an attempted robbery and a report of a person with a gun, others “doing drugs, drinking and not one person was arrested for that,” said a witness. Others were less critical. “These types of graduation or “last day of school” gatherings have been going on for decades. Kids were smoking weed and underage drinking back then too. They were kids doing kid things.” Others offered “curfew all summer for the kids. It’s been done before.

200 block of E. Bay St. At 12:47 a.m. at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in the Pike, a woman was found unconscious on the premises. Long Beach Fire Department attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

1300 block of W. 33rd St. At 4:22 a.m., two men attempting a car break-in were confronted during their illegal act, which they solved by shooting at and missing the interrupter, failing in a combination of theft and marksmanship skills.

Second St. & Covina Ave. As a Nextdoor poster commented, at 11 p.m., “When Legends cleared out at the end of the World Cup, a couple in their early fifties crossed Second Street where the husband took out a grease marker and wrote initials on the back of road sign on the island. During that, his wife continued to the northeast corner and waited for him. When he arrived at the corner, he kneels down and repeats the same marks on the light traffic controller box. I ask him is he seriously tagging? The wife mutters something and they both walk away.

“I live a few doors down and got some acetone and removed tags from six locations. The detail that struck out to me was this was a middle-aged couple, he was dressed like a 13-year-old kid wearing baggy basketball shorts and a tank top and she was dressed like she was going to church. He was bald with his reading glasses, middle-aged people tagging the initials SND followed by an angled equal sign.”.

1400 Block of Gaviota Ave: At 11:50 p.m., shots were evident, but the shooter not so much. Police took an interest in this activity.

5600 Block of Myrtle Ave. At 10:06 p.m., additional shooting, similar gonzo shooter. Additional police interest.

Pacific Coast Hwy. & Second St. A 6 p.m. DUI checkpoint at a key leaving-town-for-Orange County site with few alternatives concluded at 2:00 a.m. yielding one DUI driver and three drivers cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or suspended, preventing potential passing parade problems.
