Artesia Blvd. and Atlantic Ave. At 1:30 p.m. a man in a red Lexus fired a gun several times into the air, supposedly a prime example of road rage. About ten minutes later, the shooter drove to the 8600 block of Somerset Blvd. in Paramount and attempted a carjacking. “During the course of the crime, the carjacking victim was shot and killed,” said sheriff’s officials said in a news release. The gunman drove off in the Lexus, then carjacked a red Mustang at Garfield Avenue and Alondra Blvd., hurting no one. He crashed into another car at Greenleaf Avenue and Long Beach Blvd. in Compton, leaving the other driver with minor injuries and was picked up by someone in a black Kia. Officers located the Kia in front of a Compton home and detained several people who apparently had nothing to do with the string of crimes. LAPD investigators subsequently detained another person in the connection to the deadly shooting.

405 Freeway near Cherry Ave. At 7:40 a.m., four or possibly five cars collided, blocking the carpool lane on the southbound freeway. At 8:30 a.m., authorities were still attempting to come up with an accurate count as metal was being untangled.

1200 block of E. 56th St. Long Beach resident Brandon Vincent Davis, 28, was arrested on one count of murder in connection to the October 7 death of Carson resident Deon Robinson, 47 and one count of attempted murder of a 36-year-old Long Beach resident. Darshay Holland, 25, of Compton was charged with witness intimidation with a gang enhancement and Ricky Lee Vaughn, 28, of Hawthorne was charged with one count of ex-felon with a handgun with a gang enhancement.

Redondo Ave. near Broadway. At 10:10 p.m., in what seems like an almost regularly scheduled Highway Patrol pursuit of a stolen white 1999 Ford Taurus at high speeds entered Long Beach via Cherry Avenue from Lakewood and Signal Hill and continued south to 10th Street, then went south on Obispo Avenue, making a few turns into alleyways and side streets and making a gross violation of a roundabout on Obispo. With CHP cruisers closely behind, the Taurus began emitting smoke as it coughed to a halt on Redondo. Car fire? Hardly. The suspect emerged from the Taurus and while following orders from the patrol, reached into his pocket, a really dangerous move. That’s when a large quantity of smoke drifted away, not shot in the traditional way, but a final shot of his vape. Goodnight.

1000 block of Stanley Ave. At 10:05 p.m., an officer, investigating a suspicious person and vehicle ran the license plate and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in Long Beach. When he attempted to take the suspect into custody, the suspect violently assaulted the officer, and while help was on the way, the suspect disarmed the officer of his duty weapon and fled on foot, causing significant injuries to the officer.

16th Street and Stanton Pl. At 10:45 p.m., the same suspect carjacked allegedly another vehicle. Police saw the carjacked vehicle near 16th Street and Alamitos Avenue and pursued it to a residence at the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. where the suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle. SWAT responded and when negotiations failed, rubber baton rounds and a K-9 were deployed. The suspect, 27-year-old Damian Lopez-Sauzo, a gang member from Long Beach was then taken into custody by SWAT. He was booked for attempt murder of a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer, resisting arrest, carjacking, felon in possession of a firearm, evading and parole violation, and is being held at the Los Angeles County Jail without bail. The officer’s firearm was recovered inside the carjacked vehicle

The boy, 12-year-old Eric Dagel, died at the hospital and his 11-year-old sister was hospitalized in stable condition with injuries that aren’t life-threatening. The Suburban was driven by a 39-year-old Lakewood man, who remained at the scene and was cooperative. Pacific Coast Hwy. and 2nd St. The ongoing demolition of the Seaport Marina hit an unexpected snag, when at 2:30 p.m., crews breeched a pipeline, sending a substance flowing into the street, disrupting traffic on Second Street into Belmont Shore and Pacific Coast Hwy into Seal Beach and requiring the placement of barricades for a possible long-term closure. Meanwhile, hotel demolition continued apace , hardly slowed by the spill.
