645 Redondo Ave. Johnnie Lee Brown, 77-years-old, was arrested for allegedly shooting and wounding a 67-year-old man at 12:30 p.m. after an argument in their senior housing building. Southbound 605 Freeway just north of the 405 interchange. At 5:30 a.m., for unknown reasons, a flatbed truck flattened the way down the side of the freeway into a ditch.

Ocean Blvd. near City Hall. Someone described as a male transient was observed at 9:10 a.m. urinating on a city vehicle. Only question is which city hall, the old one or the new one?

300 block of Obispo Ave. Fake law enforcement-posing robbers struck at 7:30 p.m.

The robbers knocked on a door, claimed to be law enforcement, and true to the root word, forced their way inside the house. During a struggle, one of the robbers pistol-whipped a victim and a gunshot was fired, but didn’t strike anyone. When someone called police to report the gunshot, real officers headed to the home, but the fake cops fled before they got there. Real paramedics treated the pistol-whipped victim.

Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. At 10 a.m., California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials stopped a boat traveling on the left side of the entrance to the bay, instead of the right side as it should have. However, this traffic violation gave way to the finding of dozens of large black plastic bags aboard the vessel and the calling in the feds, who towed the boat. Homeland Security Investigations agents counted 1,119 pounds of marijuana in 48 bags. Two boaters were arrested and could face federal prosecution. Seems that pot busts often start with traffic violations, on the land or on the sea. Status of the traffic citation unclear.

Cerritos Ave. and Appleton St. At 3:30 p.m., came an assault between two men, the attacker with a female, involved the use of a saw, certain a single-edged deadly weapon as much as any. At 4 p.m., the cops saw someone who matched the description of the saw guy. He ran, but was soon caught and cuffed.

Olive Ave. and 9th St. Speaking of unusual weaponry, at 4 p.m., a gunman fired one round during a fight with a man armed with a sword. “During the altercation one party armed themselves with a sword and the other armed himself with a firearm,” Long Beach Police spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson said. “A round was fired but no one was hit or injured.” The gunman drove away, but was stopped by police and taken into custody. No word about the swashbuckler’s fate.

Orange Ave. near Fifth St. At 8 a.m., responding to a domestic violence call, cops located a barricaded man inside in an apartment after the victim had already fled. Police cordoned off the area and evacuated a few apartments. Unable to convince the man to give up, SWAT and a K9 entered the apartment and arrested the suspect, who suffered a minor injury during the arrest.

1600 block of Henderson Ave. At 6:30 p.m., 23-year-old Everth Membreno-Lopez of Long Beach was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman during a domestic dispute. As the woman’s wounds weren’t life-threatening, she was treated at the scene by paramedics. Lopez was removed from the scene and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Bellflower and Spring. At 12:25 p.m., according to a NextDoor posting, “an elderly lady was driving east on Spring, and blew a red light at Bellflower. This resulted in a city bus traveling southbound on Bellflower to jump the center median and run into northbound lanes.” As a result, five other vehicles, including another bus, were hit. “I stayed with the elderly lady, who was bleeding and in shock from her airbag. About a dozen people from the bus were wandering next to it on the center median. I stayed with elderly lady until excused by first responders. They finally got the bus moved into the slow/turn lane in front of Worthington and most of the intersection reopened after a few hours.” After paramedics arrived, “last I saw was her tugging on the fireman’s jacket, saying she was late for a doctors appointment. ‘I’m afraid you’re going to be late, ma’am’, the firefighter/paramedic kindly replied.”

Orizaba Ave. near Third Street. Another NextDoor post of a 7 p.m. street robbery. “Two people robbed at gunpoint. Apparently there was a car crash involved and a Dominoes delivery driver was able to get the suspects car plate number after they tried to flee the scene.”
