Artesia Boulevard and Cherry Avenue. A 37-year-old Long Beach woman driving a red 1998 Ford Expedition eastbound on Artesia Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. was struck by a black 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 25-year-old Paramount man that ran a red light while southbound on Cherry Avenue, which then collided with a gray 2013 Kia Optima and a black 2008 GMC Yukon in the northbound lanes of Cherry. The Ford then struck a light pole on the southeast corner of the intersection, killing Dashaynee “Nay” Raulett Williams, 37, the owner of Pinkribbon Childcare center. The four children in the Ford were also taken to a hospital in good condition. “There was no arrest made at the time of the collision, and the investigation is ongoing,” a police statement said.

400 W. Broadway. When an employee of the Long Beach Police Department observed suspicious activity in the second floor men’s restroom of the Public Safety Building, that employee told his supervisor and the department immediately investigated, as police often do. Detectives discovered that a civilian employee had been photographing and videotaping other employees in the same restroom. Clerk typist Sergio Nieto, a 28-year-old resident of Downey was arrested and booked for recording people in a restroom without their knowledge, at the Signal Hill Police Department, to avoid a conflict of interest with his work site.

L.A. River bike path near Del Amo Boulevard. A man and a woman were riding bikes at 6 p.m. when a gunshot hit the lower body of the man. Emergency personnel took him to a hospital with a non-life threatening injury after telling police he did not know where the gunfire came from.

Saturday, July 7

Queen Mary Park. Some really devoted Snoop Dog fans were climbing over the rocks near the concert site at 3 p.m. to enter the concert sans payment, which after all, was a healthy amount. Not to mention the possible presence of ganga odor.

Monday, July 9

Near the Belmont Pier. A woman walked into a liquor store and scooped up some of those small airline style bottles of booze, departed at 7:30 p.m. into the company of a male, both of them walked toward the pier, then dis-a-piered.

Cover Street in Douglas Park. At midday, the north wall of a one-time Boeing building being torn down to make way for more Douglas Park activity sort of began collapsing over a fence and foliage that protected the nearby street. As was noted on Nextdoor, “I asked if anyone was hurt. No. Did anyone call 911? Nope, no one called 911. I know this, because I did. Then I called the council office. Response was immediate. Police showed up and quickly closed south side of Cover, with one asking aloud why the guys were standing around. Last I saw they were running traffic one-way back/forth on the north side.” A second poster commented, “Must be a really low-budget demolition contractor.” Said a third poster, “Call the council? Are you kidding? Get Stacy Mungo out there with her hard hat on?”

Thursday, July 12

Wardlow Road and Orange Avenue. At 9:30 p.m., an altercation apparently led to a stabbing in which an unidentified man died from multiple wounds to his upper torso. “He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” said the police.

Friday, July 13

Anaheim Street and Ximeno Avenue. In the case of more infrastructure breakdown, both busy arterial streets were closed at 1 p.m. so that crews could fix a broken water main. As a result, water was shut off from Park Avenue to Roswell Avenue and from Anaheim Street to 15th Street, for both residents and businesses, but not for golfers. Noticed by area residents at 11:30 p.m., the familiar sounds of water gushing and splashing, but no swimming hole to account for it, cars and sidewalks received a dose of murky, brown water. Service was restored at 4:30 p.m.
