Canal Avenue and Summit Street. Police said a man watering his lawn, Jose Raul Corrales Aguilar, 69, was shot and killed by someone in a light-colored sedan containing three to four people that drove by and opened fire at 3:05 p.m. Corrales was one of several other males standing outside and anther person was also hit by gunfire but left the scene before police got there and transported himself to a hospital for treatment. The shooting is being investigated as gang-related

Thursday, October 11

Orange Avenue and 20th Street. A 22-year-old man was arrested near the Mary Butler Middle School site based on allegations he tried to sexually assault a 5-year-old girl near the a middle school. At 5 p.m. Steven Sergio Garcia was taken into custody at the location after bystanders held the suspect down until police arrived.

Friday, October 12

5500 block of Orange Avenue. In a road rage aftermath, a male ran into an apartment, came out with a friend, allegedly armed with a rifle and a gun at 7:50 a.m. Cops responded in force and alleged perps ran away. Police surrounded an apartment, but then departed after they couldn’t establish the unit was connected to the rifleman.

Stearnlee near the duck pond. On Nextdoor, a resident reported “Our home was burglarized today, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The burglars took mostly jewelry, watches and small electronics. From what we can tell, it looks like they came in through our dog door. The police officer that took the report said there were other burglaries in the area today with similar circumstances. Please be diligent in reporting any suspicious activity.”

300 block of Park Ave. In evening of spectacular lightning strikes, while the owner was on a balcony admiring the show, at 8 p.m., that very lightning struck the roof of her structure, leaving no injuries, damage yet to be assessed.

Saturday, October 13

3500 block of Pacific Avenue. At 5:40 a.m., firefighters responded to a house fire, which they quickly doused. Flames extensively damaged a family room and kitchen and smoke damaged the rest of the house. When firefighters entered the home, they found no human victims, but a dog was found dead.

Sunday, October 14

Tenth Street and Alamitos Avenue. Two men and one woman were stabbed in a “physical altercation with another group.” Police found all three victims with stab wounds. They were transported to the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries,” however police were faced with a wall of noncooperation on the part of the victims. In a press release, police said the victims “were uncooperative with the investigation and provided no additional details.”

Wednesday, October 17

Redondo Avenue and 11th Street. At 5:30 p.m., 26-year-old Isaiah Elijah Andino of Long Beach was arrested and charged with kidnapping and oral copulation by force or injury, and is being held at the Long Beach City Jail without bail. All the crimes occurred in Belmont Height, including a July 5 incident at an alley near 3rd Street and Mira Mar Avenue; a July 22 incident in an alley near Fifth Street and Tremont Avenue and on Oct. 16 incident in an alley near Third Street and Quincy Avenue. A fourth incident on August 1 was to a victim picked up in Inglewood and assaulted in the area of Nieto Ave. and Colorado Street. According to a police press release, “In three of the incidents, the suspect connected with the victim online and agreed to meet at a designated location in a residential area in Long Beach. Once the victims were inside the suspect’s vehicle, he drove them to an alley, threatened them at gunpoint, and sexually assaulted them. The suspect then fled in his vehicle, leaving the victims behind.” All of the victims lived outside of Long Beach and range in age from 18 to 22 years-old.

Friday, October 19

Santa Fe Avenue at Willow Street. At 10 p.m., a pickup truck crashed into a black and white police SUV with lights and sirens activated according to police. The SUV was northbound on Santa Fe Avenue when it met up with the westbound truck, which was said to be going at a high rate of speed when it struck the police vehicle. A passenger in the truck and an officer were reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

5200 block of Cherry Avenue. At 10:30 p.m., a man was stabbed with a knife in the upper torso. As the suspect was still at the scene, he was taken into custody. The two were apparently known to one another and this was the apparent result of a dispute between the victim, the suspect and the knife. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.
