Thursday, November 1

East Long Beach. At 3 p.m., a resident received a call from “Microsoft” promising a refund of the cost of his last computer and how much did he pay for that computer? $500. “We will refund $500.49. Do you have your computer on? What do you see on the screen?” Sensing this as an attempt to wrest control of his machine like other “Microsoft” calls had, the resident, who was about to travel to get a free Doritos taco from Taco Bell in the World Series stolen base promotion, refused to answer, which prompted a braying noise from the caller. The taco was scant and somewhat dry.

Friday, November 2

City of Lynwood. Homicide detectives and the S.W.A.T. team served a search warrant over the October 9, 2018, murder of 69-year-old Jose Corrales. Detectives determined the murder was gang motivated and possibly connected to an altercation earlier that afternoon at Cabrillo High School. Suspect, 20-year-old Rhyan Burrell of Lynwood was arrested for murder and other crimes with a gang enhancement and was booked into the Long Beach City Jail, held on $2,040,000 bail. Also arrested was 23-year-old Terrel Warren of Long Beach for murder and a gang enhancement, booked at the same bail. Detectives found three firearms and ammunition and a vehicle was impounded during the execution of the search warrant that was possibly involved with the murder.

Wardlow Road and Pacific Avenue. At about 9 a.m., four pest control vehicles were stolen from a location, and thanks to a satellite locator, three were located, putting the pest in the GPS.

Wednesday, November 7

Spring Street near the 605 Freeway. An adult male was biking westbound in the third lane of Spring Street when he was rear-ended near the 605 freeway by a driver in a 2007 Honda Accord. The injured cyclist, Bryan Lembke, 39, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday, Nov. 12 The 53-year-old Cypress driver of the Honda stayed on the scene of the collision and had cooperated with investigators.

Pine Avenue and 20th Street. At 7 p.m., police were called to a hospital where they found and interviewed the victim of a shooting which may have occurred on or near Pine Avenue, where a crime scene was located. It wasn’t clear if the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle. No motive has been established, but gang-related crime is suspected.

Thursday, November 8

2700 block of Fourth Street. Firefighters arrived at the restaurant, Restauration to find a heavy fire on the rear patio area of the building, knocking it down at 12:21 a.m. There were no reported injuries and investigators and the health department arrived to investigate the restaurant to determine the cause of the blaze, though it is clear Restauration will require restoration.

Friday, November 9 

5800 block of Brayton Avenue. A shooting of an adult male and three male juveniles at 10 p.m. with non-life threatening wounds meant a trip to the hospital.

Atlantic Avenue and 11th Street. At 2:30 a.m. the driver of a car hit-and-ran into a parked car and then hit the living-room wall of a home, abandoning his car at the scene. Nobody was hurt, though it’s not clear whether the driver was hurt, as he left. Goes with the territory.

Tuesday, November 13

Tenth Street and Redondo Avenue. Police said they got three separate reports in quick succession about a masturbator at 2:15 p.m. According to the female victims, he was in his car and asked each of them for directions, then realized he was masturbating. Based on witness descriptions, police quickly found a car that matched the description and arrested Jared Heins, a 38-year-old resident of Long Beach, who is now being held on $10,560 bail.

Thursday, November 15

In front of Bancroft Middle School on Centralia Street. According to a posting on Nextdoor, at 10:30 a.m., the poster was on foot when approached by “a man driving and a female child in front seat and male child in the rear seat. Said he was from New York and needed cash and would sell me his ring, I just said no and he took off fast towards Clark. I was going to take a picture but the plate was covered.”

Studebaker Road near Kildee Street. Also on Nextdoor, “This couple with a little boy standing in the backseat of a new model white Ford Explorer pulled up to me and my brother on the street Studebaker south of Killdee and said they needed help. The man was driving and reached over the lady passenger trying to give my brother a gold ring when I said ‘no don’t put your hand in that window.’ I tried to get their license plate number but the plate was folded up so couldn’t read it.”
